[center:39hshiba]Spurred on by something that Diego said, is Madonna trying too hard (through her records/touring etc)to remain relevant and retain her title as Queen of Pop? Or is she merely living up to what has come to be expected of her?[/center:39hshiba]

Wayne I think you asked the right question in the topic and the wrong one in the poll! She shouldn't by any means step down, or stop trying to make good music! But I feel like she could do without still trying to be too sexy or fit in with today's R&B-driven music industry.

I kind of have to agree with this.

The argument could be made that if she didn't try and be 'sexy' and act 15 years younger than her actual age, she'd end up with the same mainstream reputation as Celine, who granted sells albums in the same quantity, but who's lifestyle and shows are laughed at by those who aren't her fans.
I think its a lose-lose situtation for the likes of Mariah & Madonna. If they act slutty, and 'fit-in' with the rest of the scene, then they are accused of being ridiculous, and immature. If they don't, they can no longer score a hit single, and lose a large portion of their reputation

if you would have asked this on her last album release I would have said yes she is trying to hard, but I haven't seen anything from this project to indicate this. She hasn't pushed to be young with the new single, alhtough I feel it's a little mediocre I think it's very "Madonna" and she isn't tottering around in knickers stood next to a rapper.
No I don't think that she's trying too hard. She just enjoys being successful. She's doing just what Beyonce, Mariah or Shakira are doing currently. The fact that she's 50 doesn't mean that she can't enjoy popularity and huge record sales! ;)
