Adele
Broke all chart records imaginable, and continues to do so with her record setting 21. She's RUMOURED to be re-releasing 21 this year, despite herself stating she never would. With this in mind, do you think she'll dominate 2012, like she did 2011? One thing is for sure - 21 will remain one of the best-selling albums of the year this year. The Grammy's/Brits could do even BIGGER things for Adele this year.
Technically, this won't represent a comeback but she deserves a mention in my opinion, nonetheless.
Madonna
M.D.N.A is the title of her comeback, and she's starting her comeback tour in the Meditteranean. Her comeback single features the IT girl in hip-hop Nicki Minaj, and her albums are consistently successful. Can we expect another 3m steady selling album, or even a 6m selling album to rival Confessions as Madonna's biggest comeback? Judging by the sound of her new single, Madonna can expect big things, IF she manages to nail the all important and central US market. She's guaranteed massive European success.
Mariah Carey
The diva and queen of 00's comebacks has a lot of things going her way in 2012 - the media have been very receptive to Mariah and news of new music is being well received by her fans, and music publications. She was recently celebrated by BET for her contributions to black entertainment.
Celine Dion
Taking Chances was the 17th best-selling album of 2007 according to the IFPI, despite only two months release. It went on to sell over 3.5m copies worldwide; it proved that like Madonna, Celine still sells extremely well with her albums. Her Vegas show is 100% sold out up until the winter, and she's expected to complete little promo tours throughout the year to promote her new albums - one English and one French. 2012 could be a great year for Dion.
Lana Del Rey
Despite no full length studio albums released last year, Lana Del Rey was one of the most talked about new artists - she's going to have a very fruitful 2012. How successful it will be, only time will tell. Video Games is a fantastic song though, maybe she'll be the Adele or Amy Winehouse of the year.
Janet Jackson
Janet wrapped up a successful world tour last year, grossing over $30m. New music is apparently on the cards for 2012, following up her greatest hits album in 2010. Janet is one of the biggest female artists of all-time, and new music is always anticipated from Janet. How successful a year will Janet have, with new music?
Christina Aguilera
New music anticipated, and following Moves Like Jagger, a major comeback is expected. However, as we saw with Bionic, Christina's name doesn't sell based on music alone anymore. She'll need to pull something extraordinary out of the bag to experience the success she was used to, pre-Bionic.
Other typically big names should also experience big things - Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry & many others should all experience big 2012's. What do you guys think?

Great post.
Adele will continue to have a great year regardless of whether she releases new material or not. "Set Fire" proved she doesn't need to be promoting to secure continued success. 21 should be top 10 year-end once more.
Madonna will be big in Europe like you said, with a possible top 10 lead single in the states since it features Nicki Minaj. I can see her album failing to be certified platinum here though, and radio won't touch her.
Celine's singles will most likely flop, but her English album is pretty much guaranteed at least half of what Taking Chances shifted worldwide.
With Mariah, it could go either way. Her lead single should do well in the US as per usual, but if they continue to choose the wrong follow-ups I can see another Memoirs era sales-wise or worse. Hopefully her new management will be smart and provide her with decent overseas promotion for the first time since TEOM.
Many are saying Christina's next era will be crucial to the future of her career. It has been 6 years now since her last hit album - that kind of a gap just doesn't bode well with the here-and-now mentality of music listeners today. So if she fails again...it's gonna be really hard to climb back up. But she still has that VOICE, and with the right music and timing she has the potential to rise to the top again.
I can't see Janet doing anything, sorry. Her days are pretty much over, but I wouldn't mind if she proved me wrong.
Lana...LOL. Just no.

Adele: Let's hope NOT! We have had enough of her constant ruling of charts - with an artist that is only ballads. Life isn't all about ballads - sure some of the best Rihanna and Beyoncé tracks are ballads - Russian Roulette, California King Bed, Listen and Halo - but it doesn't mean that an album should be filled of them because it is BORING!!!! Hope the operation fails! (is that a bit harsh?)
Don't really mind all of those others, as long as they don't take away good artists' crowns - like Adele does with talentless trash, Kelly Clarkson is a much better vocalist! Oh and Wayne, about Celine Dion's 17th best selling album - two months release utter sh!t, well I want to point out Rihanna's "Loud" was released 12th Nov 2010 - and in less than 2 months, it became the 4th best seller of the year, so WAY!
Anyway here is my list of who will do well:
Rihanna: obviously! Talk That Talk (album) has been named as the second biggest selling R&B album of 2011 - only beaten by RiRi's 2010 album Loud! And with WFL still going strong outside of the UK, it seems that Rihanna Reign just won't let up! The only problem being that (although it happened later on in the singles with Loud, it still happened) You da One (and Talk That Talk) are overshadowed by We Found Love. Hopefully some of the other smashes will do well, such as Where Have You Been and the Urban track Birthday Cake!
Beyoncé: well, with the release of the deluxe edition of 4, the mother of Blue Ivy Carter seems to be going strong, Love on Top is still doing rather well in the UK (peak at 22 - ok not so good for Beyoncé but any mediocre artist (Adele, Celine Dion @Wayne :P would be thrilled with such a peak) The lead single - however - Dance For You, already sold well with the music video, a while back, and even though - personally the rest of 4 is better than the new tracks - it will smash. And Best Thing I Never Had is Beyoncé's 7th biggest UK hit behind Sweet Dreams and ahead of Beautiful Liar.
Katy Perry: well with Teenage Dream's Complete Confection due in March - and a possible Rihanna/Katy Perry single, i think Katy Perry will gain another UK #1, and maybe a few US #1. Her personal life may not be going so well, but her career definitely is!
Cher Lloyd: Ms Lloyd (might not be for much longer) is going to break America with the track Want U Back feat. Astro - due 26th Feb 2012, and it seems that it will also smash the UK (i hope). Being the most unique act to come out of X Factor (and the best contestant too) she should do well with follow up single Superhero!
Kelly Clarkson: Well with Stronger being no.1 on US Itunes, we may have another US #1 for Kelly Clarkson, (can someone tells me how the Hot 100 Billboard works, it is based on sales like the UK chart, or is it with airplay factored it, so that some artists don't get a chance!) If it is sales, then Kelly should become #1 with Stronger, if it is airplay expect another #1 from Sh!tty Adele or Nicki Minaj who Turn Me On (:P)
Other artists that are releasing albums should do well - examples Tulisa (from N-Dubz), Avril Lavigne, Nicki Minaj, Alexis Jordan, Cascada, Jessie J & P!nk - here comes Trouble!

Celine Dion is not a mediocre artist! :o :noway: You don't sell over 170m albums and be considered "mediocre" :cheer:
Lana Del Rey is off to a flying start - she's topped the UK charts, today's chart inclusive! Over 117,000 copies sold - not many female artists with their DEBUT album have accomplished such high sales.

Yes, yes, yes i totally believe you that she's not mediocre. Albums-wise yes, wow that's great sales - however looking at her discography her 1996, 97 & 2002 (and for the UK, also 93) albums were better charting than her 3 most recent ones - which begs the question is she starting to flop. I'll admit that she has had 4 UK #1 albums but they are ancient history when her three new ones didn't reach the top. In Rihanna's case - although she has only had 3 UK #1 albums (out of 6 - which isn't that bad), Loud (2010) and TTT (2011) were #1s which shows that she isn't going to flop anytime soon.
And singles wise - well 2 UK #1 singles and 4 US #1 singles. Well thats not very impressive is it - Jessie J has had 2 UK #1 singles. Anyway, one of Celine's #1s was the fabulous My Heart Will Go On - which became (i think) the 4th biggest selling girl song of the 90s - behind Cher's Believe, Britney's Baby and something else (Madonna?). As with before, Rihanna has had 6 UK #1 singles (3x Celine) and 11 US #1 (almost 3x Celine).
I'm just messing with you Wayne, if she's sold that much she's obviously more than mediocre.
Onto L.D.R - well she seems to be on topform doesn't she - especially the fact that her Born To Die is still #1 on the itunes albums in front of Madonna's new (flop?) album :P

Of course she had her successful period - every artist does. Did you know that between 1996-1999, she sold over 110m albums worldwide - no other artist in history can even remotely match that. Her three biggest-selling albums in the UK, all sold more than Rihanna's biggest selling albums. Added to which, she had two UK million selling singles a long time before Rihanna did!
Her recent greatest hits album sold nearly 3m copies worldwide - its her 7th or 8th compilation album. Her new studio set should sell over 2m copies globally - which is great for somebody that has already sold 170m+ albums, 50m singles and over 5m DVD's.
Anyway, I'm just jesting - we all know that Rihanna will never ever be in the league of Dion! ;) I can't believe I'm having a discussion on this! :lmao: I do like Rihanna, but Celine is a music legend.

And where are her albums in the chart now then?
Just to point out that all three of RiRi's UK #1 albums are in the top 100, Talk That Talk, Loud and Good Girl Gone Bad!
I'm sorry Wayne - but we're never going to agree on this! :violin:
Anyway this is "Which divas will have a great 2012", not "Which is better RiRi or Celine?" - obviously RiRi (but that's beside the point).
The point is there is no need for comparing them, to make them better than other artists (unless we're talking about Adele, then you can attack her and her music all you want (but only verbally, and gossiply please, no physical attacks so that she has a heart attack because that would be slightly unkind -very slightly, almost minimally slightly!) :llama:Sorry felt the Llama was necessary :P
However if you wanna continue the discussion, I've sent u a friend request (well I think I did, the new layout which somehow, I accepted also, is confusing)

And she's about to see My Love... score its 100th week on the UK chart. She's sold nearly 12m albums in the UK. NOT that it does matter, because like you said - they aren't really comparable. Celine is in the upper echelon of music - alongside Madonna, Michael Jackson and Queen when it comes to success. And whilst Rihanna has had some pretty great success with her albums, and some record breaking success with her singles, she's got a long, long way to go before she can compete with Celine's career.
2012 - Celine will have an amazing year. The songwriter that worked with Adele on her 21 album, is now writing for Celine!

Well Wayne, I'm sorry to say but I won't be buying the album because it is going to double worse!
Anyway apart from Celine v RiRi (obvs Rih) but officially THE BEST CHART NEWS OF 2012 SO FAR JUST CAME OUT!!!!
Kelly Clarkson - she will do well in 2012, and she just has as her single WDKY Stronger has reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 - instead of Adele's sh!tty Set Sh!t to the Rain! Go Kelly Clarkson - best single of 2012 thus far - notice i said single, not album song! Hopefully I Forgive You (Wayne, for insulting Rihanna, as long as you don't make it a habit) (however I will never forgive Adele, for being so rubbish with her music - I think the main reason I'm STILL P!ssed with her, is cause the mediocre Someone Like You (blah-blah-blah whiny nasally voice she has) , stopped RiRi's S&M getting UK #1 - obviously so did Price Tag - but at least JJ's other songs are good!
Anyway KC will do well and hopefully Cher Lloyd - her live sessions were on the other night on MTV, and Gurl, she can SING! Wonderful vocals on Beautiful People, Superhero and Want U Back - hopefully all singles (WUB is 3rd, then it has been mentioned Superhero 4th, and hopefully BP will be 5th - with End Up Here 6th)
And obviously Katy Perry, Beyoncé (fell in love with I Was Here last night) and Rihanna (listening to LTWYL (II) on repeat right now) along with a few comebacks (like P!nk)

Well, Adele has shipped an additional 5m copies of 21 so far this year, so its definitely going to be her year again.
SMH.
