I remember trying to find a cardboard cut out of that album for my brother for his birthday a number of years ago. The record stores in the city all got rid of their supply so my mum and I ended up contacting EMI Ireland and they put one on hold until we managed to collect it.

The hardest part was getting it home in the car. :?

Article on Calvin Harris: "Kylie was amazing!''

"Among the first to take notice of his talent was Kylie Minogue, who hired him for two songs, Heart Beat Rock and In My Arms. Both tracks made it onto her 2007 album X. 'It was scary being in a little room with Kylie,' he says.

'I needed a shot of Jack Daniel's to calm my nerves. That wasn't a very good idea. It was early in the morning and I ended up a bit drunk, but just as nervous. But Kylie was amazing. I didn't realise just how much she contributed musically."

Kylie Minogue Talks North American Takedown
By Vivien Goldman
August 25, 2009

http://www.blackbookmag.com/ee/images/uploads2/KYLIE1.jpg

Kylie Minogue Talks North American Takedown Kylie Minogue has nothing to prove. She’s the sweetheart of just about every nation in the world. Countless European tabloid covers have devoted serious headline space to her romance with Italian pin-up Andrés Velencoso, 10 years her junior. The mini-divinity has not one, but five fragrances. She was even honored with the prestigious Order of the British Empire and the French Order of Arts and Letters. So why, exactly, has Minogue’s career not taken off Stateside? Maybe it’s because she hasn’t toured in North America since first chugging along to “The Loco- Motion” in 1987. Even Neighbours, the TV soap opera that gave birth to her illustrious career, was broadcast almost exclusively for Australian and European audiences. But all that’s about to change as the gamine, 41-year-old entertainer from Down Under takes her spectacular live show this side of the pond for the first time ever. Through each endeavor and incarnation—from Charlene, the garage mechanic on Neighbours, to the early-’90s shiny bubblegum-pop princess and the moody soul-searcher alongside Nick Cave, to the breast cancer survivor and activist—Kylie stays Kylie. Both sexy and likeable, she is the diva-next-door.

I’ve been watching you since the early days of Charlene on Neighbours. Now, again, those 1980s outfits are everywhere.
Can you believe it? I’m sure everyone from that time thought it would never, ever happen, but now you’ve got girls wearing scrunchies—my God, it’s incredible.

Did you ever anticipate that you’d grow up to be such a massive brand?
No, absolutely not. Maybe I’ve got a false impression of myself, but I was very shy at school. When I was younger, I wasn’t really at the front. I never did school plays or anything like that, though I began learning music from the age of 4. Acting came up by chance and one thing led to another. I don’t think about it very often, but if I looked back on Charlene, and how feisty she was, I guess that was in me as well.

Your success hasn’t been as recordbreaking stateside. Americans were slow to embrace your 10th album, X.
The fans in America aren’t great in number, but they’re great in spirit. And they’ve been so patient. I think I really shocked them when I said I was touring, because they’ve become accepting of the fact that it was never going to happen. But I meant it, all the years I spent saying I would love to tour the States.

What can we expect from the tour?
I decided not to go somewhere I’ve never been before, direction-wise, because American audiences haven’t seen my live shows for the most part. So we decided—and I guess it works well in these financial times—to bring with us a “best of” my different tours.

You’re best known as a performer, but you’ve diversified well.
I have all of these side projects—from bed linens to perfumes—but none of them would exist without the nuts and bolts of what I do, which is music and performance. But I find them really enjoyable; it’s just another way of being creative.
http://www.blackbookmag.com/ee/images/uploads/KYLIE2.jpg

After years spent being a famous rave scenester, did being sick make you discover other parts of yourself?
I spent a lot of time being pretty quiet. You don’t have a lot of energy to do much more than that. I spent time reflecting and projecting, trying to give myself goals for where I wanted to be when I was well. That was obviously pretty emotional and I was still a bit delicate. But now I think I’m back in full flight.

And you’re actually living what you projected positively?
I actually am. When people asked about my aspirations in life, I always said I wanted to find harmony, a balance between work and my private life, between work and play. I almost got tired of hearing myself say it, but I finally managed to make that happen. It’s a bit of a shame that it took something so traumatic for me to take action. But, at the moment, I really am enjoying my work, I’m enjoying performing more than ever and I feel a lot more relaxed and confident onstage—not that I’m without my nerves, of course. I’m also making time to do other nice, pleasant things…

Let’s face it, you do have a majorly hunky bloke.
For all the talk of me having boyfriends and failed romances—I always find it a bit depressing when it’s written like that—my life just hasn’t been the white picket fence. I’ve spent plenty of time on my own, so it’s good now to have someone to do those fun and not-so-fun things with. I’m not particularly good on my own.

I’d imagine you let go of your passion for clothing when you became ill.
I still tried to make an effort. Fashion takes a total rethink when it involves a scarf and when you’re not at your best. But I wasn’t prepared to let it all go, no way.

You seem to share a special bond with Jean Paul Gaultier.
I met him at the start of the ’90s, way, way, way back when I first spent time in Paris. He’s such a talented, genuine and generous person. I was at his couture show just a couple of days ago because he’ll be doing some outfits for these upcoming shows in America. I wore a rare vintage lace dress of his that my stylist found on eBay. It wasn’t in Jean Paul’s archives. It’s really sexy, with all the poppers up front.

Does it have cowboys in the lace? I have that dress! I wonder if I can still get into it.
Force yourself! Pain is fleeting, but fashion is forever.

Kylie Minogue is Australia's most powerful personal brand
By Alyssa Braithwaite
August 26, 2009 12:01am

SHE was once labelled the singing budgie, but Kylie Minogue has beaten sports stars, media moguls and even the prime minister in a survey of Australia's most powerful personal brands.

Some 400 people in the marketing/entertainment industry were asked to rate famous Australians according to how well developed their brand and brand awareness are.

Minogue topped the Talent Inc! Personal Brand survey, with a brand based on her music and acting, her perfume and underwear ventures, and her good looks and integrity.

"I think what makes Kylie number one is overall she appeals to a broad stream of people," Mark Richardson from Talent Inc! said.

"Although she's had ups and downs in terms of her albums, and especially in her ... love life and her health, she's always managed those things with grace and integrity.

"Over a period of time it's given her brand a real strength and value."

Coming in at second place is supermodel Elle Macpherson, who has her own lingerie label and skincare products.

Cricketer Shane Warne, personality Dame Edna Everage and golfer Greg Norman rounded out the top five.

Richardson said Warne was one of many sports people who made the list for their reputation off the field and as well as on.

"Because of his extraordinary genius on the pitch, he will always be revered," Richardson said.

"The indiscretions he had are kind of idiotic, they're kind of stupid, not malicious. Ben Cousins' indiscretions are far more damaging than Shane's."

Steve Irwin, Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman also ranked in the top 10, while Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and entrepreneur Dick Smith came in at number nine and 10.

Despite being our highest paid entertainers, The Wiggles only ranked at 18, while Aussie icon Ned Kelly came in at 34.

Richardson said among the survey's general findings were that if you're a man you don't have to be attractive to have a powerful personal brand, but being a good looking as a woman helps.

Being famous internationally also seemed to boost your ranking.

Richardson said many of the people with the most powerful personal brands were involved in a range of activities, such as Elle MacPherson and Greg Norman.

"It's important that there's balance there and they're seen as well-rounded," he said.

"But more importantly that there's some integrity there."

Australia's top 20 strongest personal brands:

1. Kylie Minogue
2. Elle Macpherson
3. Shane Warne
4. Dame Edna Everage
5. Greg Norman
6. Steve Irwin
7. Hugh Jackman
8. Nicole Kidman
9. Kevin Rudd
10. Dick Smith
11. Cate Blanchett
12. Jennifer Hawkins
13. Eddie McGuire
14. Paul Hogan
15. Rupert Murdoch
16. Bert Newton
17. Pat Rafter
18. The Wiggles
19. Cathy Freeman
20. Megan Gale

One year on from the launch of her At Home collection of home furnishings, Kylie can now celebrate her range quickly becoming the market leader in some of the most popular retail outlets in the world.

The new Autumn/Winter ’09 was launched yesterday when Kylie attended an exclusive event at The Grove in Hertfordshire.

The range, created by Kylie in conjunction with Ashley Wilde, continues her love affair with glamour and style, mixed with quality and good pricing – glamour accessible to all.

Kylie At Home has continued to show significant increases in sales over the last few months and is now available in Australia, Bahrain, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Kuwait, New Zealand, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, UAE and of course the UK.

In the UK it has quickly become a best-seller with House of Fraser saying: "We are thrilled that the Kylie bedlinen range has remained a favourite of the House of Fraser customer. The feminine and detailed designs have a timeless appeal and the gorgeous layering pieces dress the bed perfectly."

Debenhams said: "The Kylie range has been a huge success story at Debenhams, both within our stores and on our website. Our customers love the glitz and glamour of the beautifully embellished bed linens and sophisticated layering pieces."

Kylie says of the new range: "I'm so pleased that we find ourselves in such a strong position as we launch the Autumn '09 collection for Kylie At Home. I absolutely love designing the ranges and the most rewarding part is knowing that we have inspired people to decorate their bedroom with a touch of glamour from Kylie at Home!"

Kylie Minogue and Benny Andersson played When All Is Said And Done

Kylie Minogue stole the show at the BBC's Abba tribute concert on Sunday with her only UK performance of 2009.

The 41-year-old took to the stage towards the end of the three-hour event in London's Hyde Park to sing the Swedish group's 1980 hit Super Trouper.

She later returned to perform When All Is Said And Done with Abba songwriter Benny Andersson.

Minogue said it was "a dream come true" to appear on stage with the Scandinavian musician.

Chaka Khan, Jason Donovan and Lulu were among the other music stars to sing songs from the Abba back catalogue.

Hosted by DJ Chris Evans with lyricist Sir Tim Rice and Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard, the concert was broadcast live on BBC Radio 2.

Jazz musician Jamie Cullum, West End star Elaine Paige and Marti Pellow of Wet Wet Wet also appeared, as did the London cast of Abba stage musical Mamma Mia.

However, former Texas lead singer Sharleen Spiteri was unable to attend as planned due to one of her bandmates falling ill.

"I'm not a nostalgic person but tonight took me back," Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus told the 36,000-strong crowd at the end of the evening.

"Life can be pretty wonderful," he continued. "Thank you for giving us this unforgettable experience."

Speaking to Radio 2's Richard Allinson afterwards, Ulvaeus confessed it had been a "very emotional" occasion.

Formed in 1970, Abba achieved nine UK number one singles before unofficially disbanding in 1982.

Since then Andersson and Ulvaeus have collaborated on a number of projects, among them the West End musical Chess.

Later this month, an English version of their 1995 musical Kristina from Duvemala will be presented at New York's Carnegie Hall.

On a sweltering June night, deep in the cool, cavernous belly of the New York Public Library, Kylie Minogue is dressed like Cinderella on her way to the Black Party. In a white Jean Paul Gaultier gown outfitted with a harness that stretches from its leather bustier to fasten around her tiny waist, she looks out over a sea of men pushing bits of rubbery lobster around their salad plates and asks, “Can you believe I’m here in New York?” The predominantly rich, gay, and famous audience -- Marc Jacobs, Cheyenne Jackson, and Lance Bass among them -- have put out $1,000 or more to see Minogue host amfAR’s Inspiration Gala honoring Gaultier and Ricky Martin, and they titter appreciatively in response, delighted to be in on her little joke. They know exactly what the diminutive Australian singer is getting at.

Minogue has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide, was the most-played female artist of the last two decades on U.K. radio, and has received an Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II for services to music and a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres insignia, one of France’s highest cultural honors. But to most Americans -- the straight ones, anyway -- she is only vaguely familiar, a name they can’t quite put with a face but with whom they feel they might have once shared a brief, bright moment years ago.

Minogue came to America in the summer of 1988 -- a baby-faced 20-year-old pop pilgrim peddling a catchy, if slightly dorky, cover of Little Eva’s 1962 hit “The Loco-Motion” -- years before Britney or Christina bobby-pinned their first pairs of mouse ears on top of their heads. She came before Fergie had inhaled her first hit of meth, before Lady Gaga was bluffin’ with her muffin (in fact, her muffin was barely out of her mother’s oven). But the considerable fame the single brought her in the U.S. dried up faster than you can sing “chug-a chug-a motion.” By 1989, she seemed well on her way to being a one-hit wonder.

Peter Waterman, one-third of the producing and songwriting team Stock Aitken Waterman -- better known as the Hit Factory and responsible for monster singles from ’80s acts like Bananarama, Rick Astley, and Minogue -- partly blames a lack of promotion for the sudden radio silence. “We couldn’t get [Minogue’s] people to commit to America,” he says. “You’ve got to give America respect -- it’s the biggest country in the world as far as record sales are concerned.”

Furthermore, by the early ’90s, rap and grunge were taking over the airwaves. Reigning pop queens Madonna and Janet Jackson were dirtying up their images and sound by shedding their inhibitions -- and more and more clothing -- on their albums and in their videos. It was difficult to pinpoint exactly how to pitch the squeaky clean Minogue to an increasingly pop-phobic nation. “It’s very simple to sit in a studio in London and think, This will be a hit in America,” Waterman says. “But how arrogant is that? We had no bloody clue what would be a hit in America.”
