I'm busy reading through the Lord of the Rings again and I must say that now that I've seen the movies, I can't believe how much they changed from the book! Sure the movie captured the essence of the book and was a grand tale, but there were a lot of deviations, some small, some pretty big. I like them both, actually; the movies fleshed a lot of stuff out while at the same time didn't show things that weren't so important to the story, but on the other hand it's nice to read those not-so-important things in the book! And of course now it's impossible to read the book without seeing Elijah Wood and Sean Astin and Ian McKellen in your mind's eye as you go!

Will you be surprised if I tell you that I have never ever seen a LOTR film or read a book in the series! I've also never seen a Star Wars film Lol.

I have both the movies and books and they really do cut out a lot of the films. I told myself "this part should've been in the movie" .. but them I realized that films can only be so long..

Lord of the ring is one of my favourite movie series but I haven’t read books. Aragorn is my favourite character in this movie.

I actually fell asleep watching the second movie in the theater. I was pretty young then though (maybe around 11), so maybe I'd enjoy it now...but I can't be bothered.

I have watched all three parts of this movie and want to watch again. It is the second best-selling novel ever written, with over 150 million copies sold. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier, less complex children's fantasy novel The Hobbit (1937), but eventually developed into a much larger work. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during the Second World War.

Yeah there is a big difference between the movie and the book. But I like them both. “Lord of the rings” is a pretty interesting story.
