Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston are set to make their respective comebacks with a series of concerts at the O2 arena early next year.

AEG, the US entertainment giant that owns the 20,000-seat venue, has been searching for “marquee names” to fill some of the 23 dates in early 2010 when Michael Jackson was due to perform.

With both Williams, 35, and Houston, 45, releasing long-awaited new albums this year, they believe they have found two artists with the profile and repertoire to sell out *several gigs at the east London venue.

The move will save millions for AEG, which has failed to book new shows for 20 nights this year, left open after Jackson's sudden death last month.

An AEG source told the Standard: “Robbie's eagerly-awaited album will be out soon and he is likely to be touring Europe next year. It will be perfect for him to start with shows at the O2.
“Whitney Houston has been on the O2 arena wish-list for a while — she has the voice and hits to sell the arena out several times over.”

Williams's new album Reality Killed the Video Star will be released in October, with the singer's manager David Enthoven promising fans “a big pop record with four or five smash hits”. It will be Williams's first album since his 2006 flop Rudebox, and follows two successful comeback tours and albums from his former band Take That.

Houston was one of the biggest-selling artists in the late Eighties and early Nineties, before drug and alcohol addictions derailed her career. Her new album I Look To You is being released next month and will be her first release since 2002's Just Whitney.

This month she announced her comeback at the Mandarin Oriental in London before a VIP crowd of record executives and entrepreneurs including Topshop's Sir Philip Green and music guru Clive Davis.

Both singers will perform their greatest hits in addition to material from their new albums.

I've just uploaded the single I Look To You to Downloads Central, so anyone that wants it they can just go and download it! :)

I was watching old Whitney lives yesterday - I really loved her around '99 time. I also fell back in love with an old classic, Didn't We Almost Have It All

I agree I loved her around 99, so cool and her voice was edgier but still had power. Bit more soul to it aswell. The My Love Is Your Love album is my fave album too

Whitney Houston is a brilliant singer. But unfortunately she's not a brilliant artist. Most of her albums contain alot of filler. Her debut was great and is easily her best. I'm also underwhelmed with her new album. Its pretty boring and it doesn't have to big pop diva ballads that I was looking forward to.

I agree about the last bit for sure! This should be about showing people that the voice is back, but there are no histrionics! :P

New music video for "I Look to You!"

[youtube:3uys5y3e]mdEEwnlaF84&feature=sub[/youtube:3uys5y3e]

I think the director should be fired. Whitney was great in it: she had the right passion and soul, looked stunning in her dress, and you could tell she was really feeling the emotions in the song. I like the simplicity but it's too simple, and the camera work could've been a lot better.

WHITNEY HOUSTON

Vocal acrobatics: 4/5. Still packs a mighty wallop, most notably on the skyscraping chorus of I Will Always Love You, though recent troubles may have dulled her vocal fire.
Elaborate outfits: 2/5. Never known for her style, she looks far from sexy on the cover of the new album, though it’s better than some of the tabloid shots during her lowest ebb.
Ridiculous demands: 3/5. Not so nutty really, though she did require an armoured car to take her on a tour of south-east Asia in 2004.
Rocky relationships: 5/5. Married to jailbird Bobby Brown from 1992 to 2007, their relationship was the subject of many drug rumours. He was charged with misdemeanour battery for allegedly striking her in 2003.
Quotability: 4/5. Most infamously: “We don’t do crack… Crack is wack.”
Fragrance: 0/5. None to date.
New album: I Look to You, released 19 October on Arista.

SHAKIRA

Vocal acrobatics: 3/5. More of a semi-yodel than the full hairdryer effect.
Elaborate outfits: 4/5. Not a big fan of clothes. Favours leotards in her latest video. Midriff exposed whatever the weather.
Ridiculous demands: 2/5. “Six bananas, five peaches and three mangoes” were required before one gig.
Rocky relationships: 2/5. Engaged forever to Antonio de la Rúa, son of the former president of Argentina. Almost certainly the only diva to count a Nobel Prize-winning author among her biggest fans, Gabriel Garcia Márquez.
Quotability: 5/5. Who could forget Whenever, Wherever’s classic couplet: “Lucky that my breasts are small and humble/So you don’t confuse them with mountains”?
Fragrance: 4/5. Amuleto, which reflects “an ethnic mixture of her soul and Latin sensuality, with exotic Arabian passion”.
New album: She Wolf, released 12 October on RCA.

LEONA LEWIS

Vocal acrobatics: 4/5. So far ahead of her X Factor competitors it was embarrassing.
Elaborate outfits: 2/5. Every day’s a wedding day for Leona. It’s one posh gown after another.
Ridiculous demands: 1/5. “I don’t need anything special to be happy. I have everything I need,” she says. Boring!
Rocky relationships: 1/5. Boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa is an electrician from Hackney she has known since she was 10.
Quotability: 1/5. “I’m not a loud, extravagant person. I’m never going to be that.” As bland as a professional golfer.
Fragrance: 3/5. Leona Lewis, an ethical perfume including blood orange, “passion-filled musk” and “bewildering currant”.
New album: Echo, released 16 November on Sony.

MARIAH CAREY

Vocal acrobatics: 5/5. A five-octave range. That’s a lot of notes.
Elaborate outfits: 3/5. Favours the leggy and busty, or simply a strategically placed hat on the Touch My Body single sleeve.
Ridiculous demands: 4/5. Ferries her Jack Russell around by chauffeur-driven Mercedes, though the believable notion that she “doesn’t do stairs” is sadly a myth.
Rocky relationships: 4/5. Side Effects, a song about her marriage to Tommy Mottola, mentions “violent times”.
Quotability: 4/5. “Butterflies follow me wherever I go.”
Fragrance: 5/5. M, combining incense, tiara flower and marshmallow, “embodies Mariah’s sensuality, beauty and glamour”.
New album: Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, released 28 September on Mercury.

I actually loved the performance! Not because of the vocals. Her voice was pretty good, much better than in Good Morning America but still not outstanding by any means. However, it was the PASSION, the CLASS, the HEART and SOUL in her performance that really captivated me :O

This should definitely help her 3rd week sales. It's already climbed back up to #5 on iTunes albums.

Oprah Ratings Soar Thanks to Whitney Chat

By Josef Adalian
Published: September 15, 2009
Oprah Winfrey still has plenty of Nielsen firepower.

Monday's 24th season premiere of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" -- which featured a heavily hyped interview with Whitney Houston -- notched an 8.0 rating/12 share in Nielsen's metered market overnight ratings. That's the highest single-day rating for "Oprah" in nearly two years, and up a healthy 45 percent over last season's premiere.

Press reps for Winfrey's show note that "Oprah" scored well despite being delayed or pre-empted in nine major markets due to CBS's neverending coverage of the U.S. Open.

The lure of Houston talking openly about her drug abuse and marriage to Bobby Brown helped "Oprah" do best in Houston's one-time home city of Atlanta, where Winfrey's show earned a 10.6 rating. Winfrey more than doubled her year-to-year premiere ratings in New York, while improving by 73 percent and 85 percent in LA and Chicago, respectively.

Winfrey figures to have strong premiere week overall. Today's edition of "Oprah" features more Houston conversation and a performance by the singer. Wednesday, Winfrey pays tribute to Michael Jackson, and Friday, Winfrey will be live in New York's Central Park.

YAY

A fan from another board had emailed Richard Palmese (VP of Promotions at Sony) asking them to confirm why they had cancelled Whitney's appearence on the BAMBI Awards and got this reply....

Sorry I don't know. She is performing on the AMAs and the Dancing With Stars finale show.

They then replied asking does he know what Whitney will be performing will it be MDB or a new single to which he replied....

I think she may do "Strength" … I'm not certain.

He then went on the ask if this will be the new single then and recieved.....

Not at all.

YAYNESS so that means AMA's Nov 22nd and Dancing With The Stars Finale Nov 24th. woop woop can't wait.

Seems Arista/Sony are setting Miss Houston's legendary status up..... next in the masterplan is.

Whitney Houston: 25th Anniversary Edition

•Audio CD (January 12, 2010)
•Label: Sony Legacy
•ASIN: B002W1HBN4

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002W1HBN4?tag=pauplathemuss-20&creative=373489&camp=211189&link_code=as3&creativeASIN=B002W1HBN4

Well it's pretty obvious it will be remastered but I wonder if there will be any extra features. Remixes, DVD Videos unreleased tracks, of which I believe there is quite a few.

Or maybe Arista will be boring as usual and it will be exactly the same just remastered.

I hope they make something of this, why would they do an anniversary edition if its just the same CD everyone has just better sound quality?
