FLOETRY IN MOTION
Adele Repeats, Marsha Ambrosius Debuts, Dropkick Murphys Rule
March 2, 2011
The year's top seller so far, Adele will repeat at #1 next week, but there are a flurry of new releases coming this week that should freshen up the top of the chart.
That's based on first-day sales reports from those music retailers who haven't boarded up their stores and gone to live in Charlie Sheen's mansion.
J/RMG's Marsha Ambrosius, one-half of the U.K. neo-soul/R&B duo Floetry, emerges with her major label debut, Late Nights & Early Mornings, to score a surprising first-week total of 85-90k that should land her a #2 bow behind fellow Brit diva Adele. She has penned songs for Michael Jackson ("Butterflies") and appeared on tracks from a variety of artists, from Nas to Jamie Foxx.
Boston-based Irish punk-rockers Dropkick Murphys, a favorite of Martin Scorsese (who put one of their songs in his Oscar-winning The Departed) should do around 35-40k for their new self-released album, Going Out in Style, their seventh studio effort and first since 2007's The Meanest of Times. It includes a guest vocal by Bruce Springsteen on the early 20th century standard, "Peg o' My Heart."
Staind front man Aaron Lewis returns with his solo debut, Town Line, a country effort on Stroudavarious, the label founded by producer and former Giant Records and DreamWorks Nashville head James Stroud, which appears headed for a first-week total of between 28-32k
Veteran Americana roots singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams' latest Lost Highway album, Blessed, her 11th in an impressive, critically acclaimed career, should do in the 21-24k range.
Dangerbird's Beady Eye, the group including former Oasis members Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell, emerge on their own self-titled label with Different Gear, Still Speeding, which is looking at first-week sales between 12-15k
Universal Motown Texas punk-rockers Forever the Sickest Kids' self-titled second full-length album is also projected to be in the 12-15k range.
The market was down 10% vs. last week, up 8% vs. the same week last year and now down 9% year to date.
You may now return to following Charlie Sheen's tweets.

ADELE AGAIN
Marsha Ambrosius, Dropkick Murphys, Aaron Lewis Bow in Top 10, as U.K. Diva Repeats
March 8, 2011
After two weeks, XL/Columbia’s Adele is still “Rolling,” as her sophomore album 21 returns to #1, with another 168k in sales, bringing the total over 500k.
Biggest debut goes to J Records/RMG neo-soul singer Marsha Ambrosius, late of the R&B duo Floetry, with her solo debut, Late Nights & Early Mornings, which bows at #2, scoring an impressive 94k.
Glassnote’s still-surging Mumford & Sons (#3), Island/IDJ’s Justin Bieber Never Say Never—the Remixes companion (#4) and Capitol/EMI’s Now 37 (#5) round out the Top Five.
ILG’s self-released Dropkick Murphys album, Going Out in Style, is the other Top 10 newcomer at #6, along with Stroudavarious’ Aaron Lewis with his solo country bow, Town Line, which enters at #8.
Bieber’s My World 2.0 (#7) gives the teenpop star two in the Top 7, with New Elektra’s Bruno Mars (#9) and LaFace/JLG’s P!nk (#10, a chart-leading +23%) completing the leader board.
Other new entries include Lost Highway’s Lucinda Williams (#14), Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Luke Bryan (#22), Dangerbird’s Beady Eye (#26), Universal Motown’s Forever the Sickest Kids (#32) and Atlantic’s Lykke Li (#41).
RCA/RMG’s Burlesque soundtrack re-enters at #17, thanks to the DVD release, while Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland (#47) and Universal Republic Nashville’s The Band Perry (#48) also climb back into the Top 50.
Along with P!nk, Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band (#20, +14%) and Kemosabe/RCA/ RMG’s Ke$ha are the top double-digit gainers, followed by Capitol/EMI’s Katy Perry (#16, +8%) and Universal Republic’s Florence + the Machine (#21, +8%).
Look for new albums from Atlantic hip-hop star Lupe Fiasco and Columbia’s Glee Vol. 5 to battle for the top spot on next week’s chart, with Arista/RMG’s Avril Lavigne, Warner Bros.’ R.E.M., H2O/EMI’s Raekwon and RCA Nashville’s Sara Evans also hitting retail and online sites this week.
By how they phrase this, they expect Lupe to be the top debut :o I wonder if Avril will be a total flop!
I love his song with Skylar Grey <3
