Janet Jackson has announced that she is starting work on her eleventh studio album.

The 'All For You' singer, whose last disc Discipline topped the Billboard chart last year, is expected to release the new record next year.

"I just finished working on the film Why Did I Get Married Too?. I'm looking forward to getting started on my new album!" she wrote on Twitter.

Jackson parted ways with her record label Island Def Jam Records last September, reportedly unhappy with its efforts in promoting her LP.

The star released her self-titled debut album in 1982 and has gone on to sell over 100 million records worldwide.

It got some favorable reviews actually. But it didn't go that well commercially wise, despite the fact that it hit #1. Janet's next album will become at least Platinum, as radios will become more compassionate towards her after MJ's unfortunate death... ==> for MJ

According to TMZ, Janet Jackson has been rehearsing 15 hours a day, and preparing to honor her late brother Michael Jackson at this year’s VMAs. This will be an epic performance. Make sure you watch the MTV VMAs on September 13th.

The youngest Jackson’s homage to her big brother is being choreographed in part by Frank Gatson Jr. (Beyoncé) and Travis Payne (Michael Jackson) and is said to feature 20 backup dancers. Some rehearsals have lasted as long as 15 hours a day, reveals Kriyss Grant, one of the dancers involved. “There won’t be a dry eye in the house,” he says.[/center:16hyfrbh]

They used to be rivals. Huge rivals. Especially during the early 90's when they were both obsessed with their "Sex"-flavored albums.

Nevertheless, they have forgotten their bitter past. This is gonna be epic, can't wait!!! :D

Pop icon Janet Jackson was snapped yesterday at The Grove in Los Angeles to oversee a flash mob who were promoting her upcoming greatest hits album Number Ones.

The flash mob recreated some of Janet’s most famous choreography in a dance medley of songs including “If”, “Rhythm Nation”, and “Miss You Much”.

JANET JACKSON has been named the headliner of this summer's Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The reclusive pop superstar will close the opening night of the weekend event on July 2nd.

It will be Janet Jackson's first full performance since 2008 - and her first since the death of her brother Michael.

Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys have already been confirmed as the other headliners. Arrested Development, Estelle, Lalah Hathaway, LL Cool J, Mint Condition, Monica and Ruben Studdard are also on the bill.

Cougars, Pumas or whatever nickname you use (if you still feel compelled to use one) there's a stigma attached to an older woman having a relationship with a younger man. And if Demi Moore's or Madonna's hookups didn't scratch away that stigma, now Ms. Jackson gives the older set the go ahead.

Recently, she has been linked to millionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana (pictured far left) who is almost a decade younger than her. Speaking about the criticism that comes with having a younger man, Janet said: "It's horrible. It's really awful.

"And I have to believe it was a man that started that. Mother always raised us to believe that age was just a number. All of us - my sisters, my brothers - we'll just tell you our ages because it's all about where you are mentally and how you feel about yourself."

"There comes a time when you don't give an 'F' what people say or think. You just do your thing because it's finally about you and not in a selfish way but in a great way."

That is quite a chilling quote when you think about the situation with Michael.

That movie looks exceptional! Too bad it probably won't get a release in Australia.

RS 500 GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME:

#275 - Rhythm Nation 1814

I had no clue her albums we're even critically acclaimed!

Wayne
09-11-2010, 01:23 AM
Yeah, Janet is easily one of the most critically acclaimed female artists of all-time! Although Rolling Stone are reknowned for their "male heavy" approach (i.e. males usually dominate their lists), so its great that Janet is included.

PS that list is bull anyway.

Sergeant Pepper
09-11-2010, 01:28 AM
They've included too many 60's, 70's and 80's albums in there. They've included just about twenty albums since the mid-1990's.

Is she releasing any albums in the future?

Wayne
09-11-2010, 01:30 AM
Well (and this hurts me a bit, as I love her music) she's apparently decided to give up with her music career indefinitely, and concentrate on movies. I can't provide you with a source for this, but this is what's being said about her at the moment. If this is true, I think its awful. She still makes trendsetting music and music that is amazing! <3 Discipline was an awesome album for starters, and her recent "Nothing" record is one of her best ever mid tempos!

Are you a fan?

Sergeant Pepper
09-11-2010, 02:36 AM
I'm not a huge fan of her but I really do like her songs from Rhythm Nation 1814, The Velvet Rope, Discipline and Janet! Thats sad to hear if that gossip is true. If she does come back, I'm expecting a comeback of some sort and hopefully more successful singles and albums!

Wayne
09-11-2010, 02:42 AM
Yeah, I'd love a return to commercial success! At one point, she was scoring massive hits, reminiscent of her brother during his Thriller days. Her album sales never did match up though, with her biggest-selling album selling just less than one fifth of Jackson's biggest! :o

Simple: She’s excited about her Feb. 4 Number Ones concert at the PICC. Janet Jackson says, ‘I’m thankful to everyone who helped me choose Manila as kick-off point for my biggest world tour ever.’

This much we know about Janet Jackson who is kicking off her 35-city world tour, her biggest ever, titled Number Ones: Up Close and Personal in Manila with a concert on Feb. 4 at the PICC Plenary Hall (more on the show in a while):

• Janet Damita Jo Jackson was born on May 16, 1966, the youngest among 10 children. The Jacksons were a lower-middle-class family and were devout Jehovah’s Witness. But Janet eventually stopped practicing organized religion and considered her relationship with God as “one-on-one.”

• She was born into a family of entertainers but she loved horses more than performing and she dreamed to be a race-horse jockey. “No one ever asked me if I wanted to go into show business,” she said in an interview, “it was expected.” She entered showbiz at age seven via a show with her siblings at the MGM Casino in Las Vegas.

• She has credited her older brothers Michael and Jermaine as her musical influences, Lena Horne as “a profound inspiration” not only in her career but “for Black entertainers across multiple generations.” As a tribute to Horne on her death last year, Janet said, “She brought much joy into everyone’s lives — even the younger generations, younger than myself. She was such a great talent. She opened up such doors for artists like myself.”

• When her brother Michael died at age 50 in 2009, Janet dealt with the grief by burying herself in work, avoiding the media not because she was in denial but because she was trying to face reality in her own private way. Her first public statement about Michael went: “I’d just like to say that Michael is an icon to us. Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts – We miss him so much.”

• In April last year, she reprised her role in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? in the sequel Why Did I Get Married Too? which debuted at No. 2 with a $30-M opening-weekend gross. In November last year, she starred in the drama For Colored Girls, Perry’s adaptation of the play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, the Ntozake Shange’s 1975 best-seller.

• She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and ranked as one of the best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music, listed No. 11 best-selling female artists in the US by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

At her PICC concert, Janet will perform songs from her Number Ones chart-topping album, including What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty, When I Think Of You, Control, Let’s Wait Awhile, The Pleasure Principle, Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Alright, Come Back To Me, Black Cat, Love Will Never Do, The Best Things In Life Are Free, That’s The Way Love Goes, If, Again, Discipline, Because Of Love, Any Time Any Place, Scream (with MichaelJackson), Runaway, Got ’Til It’s Gone, Together Again, I Get Lonely, Go Deep, What’s It Gonna Be, Doesn’t Really Matter, All For You, Someone To Call My Lover, All Nite, Call On Me, Feedback and Make Me, her latest No. 1 single.
Janet chose The STAR as the only Philippine paper to do an exclusive e-mail interview with her. Excerpts:

What’s your Top 3 favorites among your 35 No.1 hits?
“Right now, I’m really enjoying Together Again, Discipline and Control.”

Why did you choose Manila to be the kick-off point of your largest-ever world tour?
“That is funny. Originally, I was going to start my tour in Singapore. I asked the fans to help me pick the cities that I should consider performing in and everything seemed like it was all set. Then we added Manila. I thank everyone who voted and helped me choose. Each of you is so important to me and I am looking forward to performing for you.”

You look forever concert-fit. How do you maintain that kind of body?
“Well, I don’t. LOL. I wrote a book, True You, that will come out on Feb.15th but the fans that go to the concert will be able to pick up a copy. I wrote the book because I have struggled with weight and self esteem. I want kids to have something to read and know that they are beautiful as they are. I write about these issues and how I have dealt with them over the years. It’s not an autobiography, but I talk about points in my life that have played a part in where I am today.

“We have been working for a while now on the choreography of the show. We rehearse all day to make sure that we are creating an exciting experience for all of you. It’s a lot of fun to work with my choreographer and all the dancers. It’s a lot of work and that with a strict meal plan keeps me in shape.”

With your energetic performance on-stage, how do you prevent another wardrobe malfunction during a concert (like what happened during her New York concert)?
“They happen — for me only once — but it does. I create the best show I can. I work with amazing people such as my stylist, Robert Behar, and then we go out and have a good time performing for my fans. If I see something that needs to be altered, we do it.”

Have you worked with Filipino artists? If so, what can you say about them?
“I don’t think of things like race or nationality. My team is very diverse and they are all amazing to work with. We are very much like a family.”

As an artist, how do you keep up with the trends in music?
“I stay in touch with the kids. I love social messaging. I am on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Friendster.

“When writing my book True You, I was reminded of all the negative things we are exposed to. The news is full of images that are troubling and all you seem to hear about these days are people doing bad deeds. It keeps me up at night. I also get to hear about people who are making a difference. I thought it would be fun to show kids who are changing their communities for the better, that they are appreciated. Hopefully, people will be inspired by these kids and decide to do something for others. I know I am always inspired by them. They rock!
“I hope that everyone in Manila will go to my website, janetjackson.com http://janetjackson.com/, and nominate five kids that I should consider. The 20 people chosen and the people who nominated them will be my VIP guests at the show. I am looking forward to seeing these kids at the concert and backstage. Meeting these kids is going to be amazing!”

You are an icon and have been successful as a recording artist and movie actress. Now, you have your own book. What else do you want to do or have not achieved in life?
“There is so much that I still want to do. It would be fun to be on Broadway. There is a whole different discipline to that schedule and I would like to experience it.”

You have been to the Philippines before, what do you remember or what do you like about our country?
“I love all of Asia. The last time I was in the Philippines was for the JANET Tour and I felt a true connection to the people of your magnificent country. I am looking forward to signing from my heart and showing love to my fans in Manila on Feb 4. Can’t wait to see all of you!”

What “surprise” are you going to spring on your Filipino fans during your concert in Manila?
“I am really looking forward to this tour. The last time I was in Manila, I played the Folk Arts Theater. This time we will be at the Philippine International Convention Center. It’s going to be fun because I will be up close with the fans. This is about my fans that have supported me and my work for all these years.”

Any message to your Filipino fans.
“I can’t wait to see all of you. Thank you for helping me pick Manila for my tour. It has been a long time since I was with you. We are going to have a good time. The song I am dedicating to you is Go Deep. I am looking forward to singing for you.”

NUMBER ONES TOUR OFFICIALLY EXTENDED!

SUCCESS OF JANET JACKSON'S ‘NUMBER ONES TOUR’ PROMPTS EXTENSION OF U.S. AND EUROPEAN LEGS UNTIL FALL

As a result of massive sellouts for performances in Asia and North America, the JANET JACKSON ‘Number Ones: Up Close & Personal Tour’ is being expanded. JANET’s largest ever world tour will now be vastly extended to even more global cities in addition to the currently scheduled performances in London, Paris and Monte Carlo. The North American leg of the tour, which is currently underway, will be continued in the fall after a scheduled spring and summer in Europe. Originally slated as a world tour of 35 cities to match the 35 number one singles from her double-disc album, NUMBER ONES, JANET will now greatly exceed her planned dates. The high demand from key venues on several continents will bring Janet around the world and back again. Several of the concerts on the initial schedule were sold-out in the first ten minutes of availability.

The star, addressing the new scope of her concert commitment, observed,
“When creating music or a tour, I draw from what is going on in my life and hope that the fans relate to it. I am excited to know that the fans are having a great time at my shows and are asking for more. Thanks for all the love and your input on where I should take the show next. I’ll see you soon!” said JANET.

Critics have been as enthusiastic about her concert performances as have her fans. Here is a sampling of the media praise for her nightly performance of songs selected from her thirty-five number one singles:

“More than a week has passed since I saw JANET JACKSON at Radio City Music Hall, and I’m still smiling…” --New York Times, Rob Hoerburger

“This is one tour not to miss, a tour on which you can see a pop icon who has done it all, giving you her all.” --BET, Clay Cane

“This was a concert displaying her growth as an artist and the tracks released during the journey.” --Entertainment Weekly, Brad Wete

“The best Janet Jackson performance I’ve covered in 20-plus years.” -- Chicago Tribune, Greg Kot

“Often imitated, never duplicated, Janet Jackson's outbursts of meticulous choreography, sassy exclamations and smoldering gazes into the audience kept them on their feet for the entire two-hour set .” -- MTV, Vaughn Schoonmaker

“The crowd, standing since Ms. Jackson hit the stage, was in full dance mode and remained so throughout the evening.” – The Republican, Donnie Moorehouse (CT)

“Friday’s concert was unusually self-knowing, as if she’d returned from a long silence and felt ready to give the truly boiled-down version of her career.” --NY Times, Ben Ratliff

“She did say it was going to be one that’s up close and personal. And boy, did Janet Jackson live up to that promise.”-- Zaki Jufri I-S Magazine (Singapore)

“It was an evening to remember: her first Boston show since she came to town in 2001 for the ‘All for You’ tour.” – Boston Globe, James Reed

“A tightly choreographed greatest hits show, and that’s exactly what Jackson delivered Monday in the first of three sold-out concerts at the Chicago Theatre.”-- Chicago Tribune, Greg Kot

“Janet Jackson’s show at the sold-out Wang Theatre last night didn’t really feel like a run-of-the-mill concert. It was more like reconnecting with the best friend you haven’t seen in years.”-- Boston Herald, Lauren Carter

“She continues to be Miss Jackson - if you're nasty - to paraphrase one of her biggest hits.” – Press of Atlantic City, by Robert DiGiacomo for At The Shore

The extension, by popular demand, reflects the icon’s great success earlier this year when her first book, “True You,” shot to the number one position on The New York Times best-seller list in the first week of its publication. “True You,” published by Karen Hunter Publishing, an imprint of Gallery Books at Simon & Schuster, chronicles Janet's lifelong struggles with weight and self-esteem. The book is a self-help guide where Janet used anecdotes from her life to illustrate the power of self-esteem and her struggles to achieve it.

Shortly after topping the best-seller list as she has long done on the record-sales charts, JANET signed a deal with Lionsgate to produce a schedule of films for the famed Hollywood studio. JANET recently starred in Tyler Perry's critically acclaimed motion picture "For Colored Girls." JANET starred in as well as co-wrote and produced the song “Nothing” for the film "Why Did I Get Married Too?” JANET’s performance as Patricia in the film earned her an NAACP Image Award Nomination for Best Actress. JANET’s performance of “Nothing” achieved number one status on iTunes. Each of those films was distributed by Lionsgate.
