After weeks of torpor, there should be new number ones on both singles and albums charts this Sunday, courtesy of Calvin Harris and David Guetta.

Michael Jackson’s The Essential album (Epic) notched up its seventh week at the top of the charts last Sunday, as the music industry slowed its release schedule over the summer.

However, this is set to change this Sunday, with Calvin Harris’s new album Ready For The Weekend (Columbia) and Tinchy Stryder’s Catch 22 (4th And Broadway) fighting it out for the number one slot.

Only 1,000 sales currently separate the two albums, which were both released yesterday, while Beyoncé’s I Am Sasha Fierce (Columbia) is around 4,000 copies behind. The Essential could drop out of the top five this Sunday, with albums from Black Eyed Peas, Paolo Nutini and Florence + The Machine all challenging.

New albums from Vagabond, Simian Mobile Disco, The xx and Soulsavers should also challenge for top 40 placings.

On the singles chart David Guetta’s Sexy Chick (Positiva / Virgin) – released early last week to combat a cover version from GG – should climb from 21 to the top slot, unseating Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling (Interscope).

GG’s cover – entitled Sexy Bitch and released by Power Music – looks set to drop out of the top 75, after charting at 60 last week
