Weekly sales inside of the Canadian albums chart. One of the ten biggest markets in the world. Not surprisingly, the most successful star on the chart is Celine Dion, who also holds the record for having the highest one week sales in Canadian history (230,200 for Let's Talk About Love)

Susan Boyle continues to be a terror on the Album sales chart, even as she does a curtsey to let Glee‘s Xmas Music lead this week’s parade. SuBo’s Gift churned another 21,000 units in the past week for a 5-week tally of 95,000. Xmas Glee reigns with a weekly sale of 23,500 copies giving the ensemble a 4 week total of 81,600. Taylor Swift‘s Speak Now moves 5 – 3 with a weekly turn of 17,260 and a 7 week tally of 167,500. Katy Perry‘s Teenage Dream has racked up 103,300 album sales in 16 weeks; Deadmau5?s 4 X 4 = 12 debuts at 16 with 7,000 sales; Johnny Reid holds steady in the top 20 with A Place Called Love selling 140,000 copies over 15 weeks; and Justin Bieber‘s My World 2.0 is sitting at 192,000 units over 24 weeks. Dropping 13 to 22, Kayne West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is edging toward gold with 43,000 copies sold; and The Beatles‘ Stereo boxed set turned another 765 copies last week for a four-week tally of 51,023.
Underwhelming are releases by Mariah Carey (Merry Christmas, 6 weeks, 16,500 sales); Bruce Springsteen (the less than promising The Promise, 4 and 8,500); Elton & Leon (Union, 8 and 18,600); Alan Jackson (34 #1s, 3 and 5,000); Neil Young (Le Noise, 11 and 28,000); Phil Collins (Going Back, 11 and 28,850);Robert Plant (Band Of Joy, 13 and 23,500); Leonard Cohen (Songs From the Road, 13 and 17,400); and Neil Diamond (Dreams, 6 and 8,600).

Weekly CD Sales Report and Year-End Wrap-Up
http://exploremusic.com/new-releases/weekly-cd-sales-report-and-year-end-wrap-up/
Yes, sales dropped after Christmas. They always do. But the good news is that they didn’t drop as much as they a year ago.
The year ended with CD sales down 11% from The Year Michael Jackson Died (and don’t kid yourself; the sales spurned by his death made a HUGE difference). But on the digital side the ledger, things are very encouraging.
Just this last week, digital album sales are up 36% from a year ago and digital tracks are up 34% (Looks like a lot of people got iTunes gift cards for Christmas). Taken as a whole, digital album sales were 25% higher in 2010 and digital tracks saw a 20% boost.
But back to the physical stuff. Rihanna stays at #1 in Canada with 11,000 additional copies of Loud and the only album to sell more than 10,000 units in Canada last week. Again, that’s not such a big surprise; the same sort of thing happened last year.
Just one album showed a sales increase over last week: The Suburbs from The Arcade Fire. It jumped from #50 to #18 in just one week, which included a 7% increase in CD sales and a whopping 141% in digital album sales. Still think that all those best-of year-end lists don’t have an effect?
So who sold the most records in Canada in 2010? That would be Eminem’s Recovery wtih 435,000, which is more than double of the #2-selling album, Speak Now from Taylor Swift (215,000; then again, her record came out much later in the year). The Bieber is in third spot, followed by Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga.
But here’s the number that interests me: In 2009, 26 album sold more than 100,000 copies in Canada. In 2010, only 16 made it that far.
The biggest selling single digital song was “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz with 319,000 downloads. “Love the Way You Lie” from Eminen and Rihanna was #2 and Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” was #3.
Digital remains the bright spot in this whole mess. In 2009, 34 songs sold over 100,000 downloads. Last year, 52 made the cut.

Weekly Music Sales Report
http://exploremusic.com/new-releases/weekly-music-sales-report/
One full week of CD sales in 2011 and another week of declines. Things are lighter by 4% over the same time last year–and last year sucked.
Let’s get the rest of the ugly CD news out of the way first. Rihanna’s Loud is #1 in Canada, but with sales of only 6,400 units. That’s the lowest total since October when Roch Voisine ended up at #1 with just 6,300 copies of his new album. The Black Eyed Peas stick at #2 (5,600) and Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans is third with just under 5,200 copies. The biggest rock record? Sigh No More from Mumford & Sons (#5, 3,800 units).

Pearl Jam made an impressive debut on the Canadian album charts, but they couldn't get a leg up on Bruno Mars.
The Seattle veterans jumped in at No. 2 with their 20th anniversary effort "Live On Ten Legs," which rung up sales of 4,200 copies, according to Neilsen SoundScan numbers.
However, it wasn't enough to speed past 25-year-old Hawaiian singer Mars, whose full-length debut "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" (6,100) hit No. 1 for the first time after four months on the charts.
Last week's top dog, Rihanna's "Loud" (3,600) slipped to No. 3

Bruno Mars rises up to No. 1
http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/M/Mars_Bruno/2011/02/09/17209221.html
For the second time this month, Bruno Mars has floated up to the top of the Canadian album charts.
His full-length debut "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" hit No. 1 on sales of 4,200, switching positions with last week's big debut, the "2011 Grammy Nominees" (4,000) compilation at No. 2.
Mars' "Hooligans" has now sold 86,000 copies since its release 18 weeks ago, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.

The Grammy halo has faded, so a dip in sales this past week was definitely expected. Things were down 11% but still up 20% over the same week last year. And overall sales are tracking behind 2010 by just 1% now.
Digital sales still have a nice glow. They’re off just 4% week-to-week and ahead 30% for the year.
On the CD charts, Adele’s 21 ended up at #1 in Canada with a healthy first-week total of 31,000. To put that in perspective, 21 has already sold more than 50% of the total units moved for her debut album–and it came out in February 2009. The rest of the top 20 feature a reshuffling of who was there last week.
The big digital track in Canada remains “Express Yourself” “Born This Way” from Lady Gaga with another 34,000 downloads. Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” comes in second with about 22,000 purchases.

Really? Six straight weeks of better-than-last-year sales? Yes–and Canadian CD sales now pacing ahead of 2010. Sure, it’s just 1%, but jeezus, that’s encouraging
The #1 album in Canada is a French monster from Ginette Reno. Her La Musique En Moi sold close to 19,000 copies. (I say “monster” because almost all those records were sold in Quebec.) That’s also the third-highest #1 debut of the year.
Songs for Japan, that benefit compilation, did well, moving 8,000. Tht was enough for third spot but not enough to unseat Adele’s 21 (almost 14,000) in the #2 position.
Other notable debuts: Angles from the Strokes (#4, 7,600 units), Classified’s Handshakes and Middle Fingers (#7, almost 4,000), Scurrilous from Protest the Hero (#8, 3,300) and Awesome as F*ck from Green Day (#12, 3,100).
Ginette Reno is Quebec's second best-selling artist after Celine Dion!

CANADA
Overall sales are down by 1% here in Canada over last week, despite a hoped-for bump from the MuchMusic Video Awards. A little pacing ground has been lost, too, with sales now running just 2% ahead of last year. At least digital sales are running hot by 36%.
Adele’s 21 is back at #1 in Canada, selling 15,000 copies and maintaining it steady pace. Simple Plan’s Get Your Heart On! was a close second with 13,000 units. And despite her appearance on the MuchMusic Awards, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way slipped by 10%, selling under 10,000 copies and falling to #5.

Beyonce, Gomez can't top Adele
http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/A/adele/2011/07/06/18382636.html
Adele got some stiff competition from two fellow female stars, but they weren't strong enough to knock her out of top spot in the land.
Her mega-hit disc "21" remained at No. 1 for a second straight week, selling 13,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It held off the high debuts from Beyonce and her new effort "4" (8,700), which landed at No. 3, as well as Selena Gomez & the Scene's "When the Sun Goes Down" (9,000), which slid in behind Adele at No. 2.

Winehouse album sales skyrocket
Adele may have topped the charts once again, but the big story was the posthumous numbers accumulated by late British soul singer Amy Winehouse.
Both the curious and her diehard fans paid their respects by snapping up her back catalog from record stores over the weekend, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures.
Her 2006 hit album, "Back to Black," which includes the prophetic song "Rehab," sold 2,500 copies in Canada in the week ending July 24, with the obvious bulk being purchased in that short period of time after her death on July 23.
To give it perspective, "Back to Black" sold 110 copies the week previous, a spike of 2,172%.
Her 2003 debut effort, "Frank, sold an additional 560 units (up 5,500%).
In the United States, "Black to Black" returned to the top 10 at No. 9, selling an astounding 37,000 copies (up 3,140%), while "Frank" sold 8,000 (up 4,100%)
"Rehab" was the most downloaded single with 34,000 digital sales in the U.S. Fans purchased a total 111,000 Winehouse digital tracks via downloads, an increase of 2,000% over the previous week, Nielsen SoundScan said.
Winehouse only released two studio albums in her career.
Back in the top ten here, Adele's "21" spent its fifth consecutive week at No. 1, collecting another 14,000 in sales. Bad Meets Evil's EP ""Hell: The Sequel" (5,500) came up two positions to No. 2, while LMFAO's "Sorry for Party Rocking" (5,400) and Pitbull's "Planet Pit" both shot up four to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" remained at No. 5, likewise with Selena Gomez & the Scene's "When the Sun Goes Down" at No. 6, and the sun may be setting on MC Mario's time in the top 10 -- his "Summer Anthems" sank four levels to No. 7.
The biggest debut of the week went to 3 Doors Down's "Time of My Life" at No. 8, Theory of a Deadman had a dead second week, spiralling seven rungs to No. 9, and Rihanna's "Loud" moved up for to No. 10.
In the U.S., Adele placed first for an 11 straight week, followed by "Kidz Bop 20" in second, 3 Doors Down in third, Beyonce's "4" in fourth, and DJ Khaled's "We the Best Forever" in fifth.
