There’s no change at the top of the UK chart as Matt Cardle sits at the number 1 position for a second week with ‘When we collide’, his cover version of Biffy Clyro’s ‘Many of horror’ and thus ends 2010 as the UK’s current best-seller.
Still at the front of the queue for the top is Rihanna and Drake’s ‘What’s my name?’ which climbed to number 2 last week and stays there for the end of the year. If it fails to climb it will become the 8th hit of Rihanna’s career to peak at number 2. She can still boast 4 consecutive top 40 hits with former number 1 hit ‘Only girl’ spending its 9th charting week rising back up a place at number 6, former top 10 hit ‘Who’s that chick?’ which climbs back up 4 places to number11 in its 4th charting week, and ‘Love the way you lie’ which clocks up its 27th charting week, climbing back up 2 places at number 37.
Another former chart topper rising back up the top 5 is Black Eyed Peas' 'The time' rising a place to number 3 in its 7th charting week.
Not far behind is this week’s highest new entry, a third hit for UK singer-songwriter Katy Brien, better known as Katy B. ‘Lights on’ is straight in at number 4, instantly becoming the biggest hit of her career. She was last in the chart alongside Magnetic Man on ‘Perfect stranger’ which peaked at 16 in October. Her biggest hit previously was ‘Katy on a mission’ which peaked at 5 in September. ‘Lights on’ also features UK hip-hop star Ms Dynamite who has herself had 6 previous hits, most recently alongside DJ Zinc on ‘Wile out’ which peaked at 38 in February; her biggest hit to date is ‘Dy-na-mi-tee’ which peaked at 5 in 2002.
There’s good news for Katy Perry; ‘Firework’, which has so far peaked at number 3 is enjoying a second wind, this week clawing back up places, returning to the top 10 at number in its 10th charting week.
Also creeping back in to the top 10 is Far East Movement’s ‘Like a G6’, it’s up a place at 10 in its 6th charting week, having peaked at number 5 3 weeks ago.
Climbing a place at 12 is Olly Murs' 'Thinking of me', now clocking up its 5th week inside the top 20, having peaked at number 4. Just behind is another former chart topper on the rise, Cee Lo Green's 'F**k you' is up 3 places at 13, now in its 12th charting week.
After climbing into the top 10 last week, this week Michael Jackson and Akon’s ‘Hold my hand’ slides to number 14.
There are more climbers to report; Tinie Tempah and Kelly Rowland’s ‘Invincible’ is making significant progress, rising 17 places to number 15 in only its 2nd charting week, thus becoming Tinie’s 5th top 20 hit and Kelly’s 11th outside of Destiny’s Child. As if that wasn't enough, Tinie's previous chart topper 'Written in the stars' is back in the top 40, re-entering at 35, now spending a 12th week in the chart.
Rising back up 4 places at 16 is Bruno Mars' 2 time former number 1 'Just the way you are', now in its 14th charting week.
With the sales for this final chart being Sunday December 19th to Christmas Day inclusive, it’s no surprise to see that the Christmas hits are still present; rising to a 2010 peak is The Pogues ‘Fairytale of New York’, up 2 places at number, 17 still around is Coldplay’s ‘Christmas lights’ which clocks up a 4th charting week in spite of missing out on the top 10 at 24, and Mariah Carey’s ‘All I want for Christmas’ is still loitering around at 31.
Tinie and Kelly aren't the only ones making significant progress; N-Dubz’s ‘Girls’ rises 16 places to a new peak of number 19 in its 4th charting week.
JLS are climbing back into the top 20 having dipped last week, 'Love you more' is up 3 places at 20 and just behind, also back up 3 place at 21 is McFly and Taio Cruz’s ‘Shine a light’, now clocking up its 7th charting week.
Jessie J’s ‘Do it like a dude’ is rising again, now hitting a brand new peak of number 22, climbing 12 places.
Chart yo-yo Mike Posner's former top 5 hit 'Cooler than me' is heading back up yet again, this week rising 5 places to 23 in its 13th charting week.
Biffy Clyro’s original version of the current number 1 entitled ‘Many of horror’ is departing the top 10, after an impressive re-entry in which the song hit a new peak of number 8, this week it slides 17 places to number 25, now clocking up a total of 8 weeks inside the top 40 since its original entry in January.
There are 2 new arrivals at the bottom end of the chart, at is Cheryl Cole’s latest offering, ‘The flood’ is her 6th hit outside of Girls Aloud, following up ‘Promise this’ which hit number 1 in November and re-enters the chart this week at 38.
This week’s final new entry belongs to Ben and Jamie Hazelby’s ‘Lonely sky’, debuting at 36 which was featured on Noel’s Christmas Presents show on Dec 19th. The track also features Irish/British soft rock star Chris De Burgh who has himself had 6 UK Top 40 hits in the past, most notably ‘Lady in red’ which hit the top in 1986.
Jumping back up 5 places at 28 is Nelly's former top 5 hit 'Just a dream', the track now clocks up a 10th charting week.
Having struggled for the past 4 weeks, The Wanted’s ‘Lose my mind’ is up 11 places and returns to its peak to date of number 29.
The news isn’t as good however for Usher’s ‘More’ which slides 5 to number 34 in its 5th charting week, having climbed to its current peak of number 29 last week.
At 39 is a re-entry for a former number 1 hit, Taio Cruz's 'Dynamite'. It first hit the top in September and now spends its 15th week inside the top 40.
Did many people get an mp3 player for Christmas? How many of this weeks climbers (including re-entries) are former number 1's? - Answer:8
So what will happen in the first countdown of 2011? Can Matt hang on to the top of the chart for a third week? Will Rihanna, Tinie Tempah or Katy B climb and grab the pole position, will Black Eyed Peas return to the top, or will a new release enter at number 1?
This week’s new releases are...

Ne-Yo - Cause I Said So
Cee Lo Green - It’s OK [Download only]

Stuff added in. Matt Cardle will score the best-seller of the year next week, if he doesn't plummet (which I hope he doesn't). Poor Em has held on for half a year, only to lose it at the last week! lol. WOW @ the sales of the albums chart - in 48 of this year's week's, Rihanna would've topped the charts
Brett

Well 'Promise this' was a flash in the pan. If you recall, it entered at the top the same week as Rihanna's 'Only girl' entered at 2 and look at them now, Rihanna's had 2 weeks at number 1 whereas Cheryl's had 1, Rihanna ends the year at number 6 with the 6th best seller of the year, Cheryl ends the the year at number 38 with the 40th best seller of the year. Natural justice.

Yeah its very typical of most of Cheryl's output (Fight For This Love not withstanding)
