DARREN HAYES RECRUTED BY SIMON COWELL TO WRITE FOR WESTLIFE

Ex Savage Garden frontman and singer Darren Hayes has been writing for Westlife.

He has been recruited by Simon Cowell's record label Syco to write for its stable of artists of which Westlife is the biggest act.

Hayes is also working on a new solo album.

I have been told I need to clarify my record is probably more `classic' pop than `pop with a capital p', for fear of people expecting (Lady) Gaga,'' Hayes stated.

His longtime musical partner Rob Conley recently went to London to write with Hayes.

Conley has teamed with ex Westlife member Brian McFadden for their new electro project Wall of Soundz.

Guy Joins Westies
15 Jul 2009

Pop sensations Westlife have been secretly recording with the songwriter and producer behind Robbie Williams' biggest hits.

The chart toppers - who went back to work last week after taking a year out - are thrilled to be working with Guy Chambers.

"They are determined to bring out a new album of original songs this time," said a source.

"They don't want to record any more covers so they were delighted that Guy agreed to work with them on a number of songs for the new album."

NO MORE COVERS

Stocking stuff... Westlife's Shane Filan is looking forward to the band's new album at Christmast. The singer has promised it won't contain a single cover version. Gulp...

WESTLIFE VOW LATEST ALBUM WILL BE 100% NEW MATERIAL

EXCLUSIVE by Paul Martin

Westlife have promised fans their new album will have no cover versions as they bid to launch the ultimate pop comeback.

The stars - who have topped the charts with their versions of songs such as Mandy, Uptown Girl and Against All Odds - have given the first insight into their new material to the Irish Daily Mirror.

Singer Shane Filan revealed: "The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever. We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material.

"We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it."

Westlife first released a cover in 1999 when their version of Abba's I Have A Dream scooped them the Christmas and new Millennium No.1 slot. In 2000, they teamed up with Mariah Carey to release a cover of Phill Collins' Against All Odds, which secured them a world wide No1.

A year later, their cover of Billy Joel's 1983 hit Uptown Girl secured them another top spot before they released a version of little-known Northern Ireland band Relish's Hey Whatever.

Barry Manilow's Mandy notched them up another hit in 2003 before their monster anthem You Raise Me Up also went to No1.

Shane added: "We always prefer to release new material but we never had the luxury of a Gary Barlow-type song writer.

"But we're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a band.

"We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again.

"The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year."

Westlife promise 'strongest album yet'
11 Aug 2009
By David Balls, Music Reporter

Westlife have promised that their upcoming ninth studio album will be the group's strongest to date.

The Irish boyband, who have not released any new material for two years, (partly wrong, last release of new track was 2008) insisted that they will surprise fans when they return later this year.

"The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever," Shane Filan told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material.

"We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it."

Guy Chambers, former Savage Garden star Darren Hayes and Ryan Tedder, who penned Leona Lewis's 'Bleeding Love', are all rumoured to have contributed material for the new record.

"We're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a bang," Filan added.

"We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again.

"The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year."

Westlife have sold over 40 million copies of their nine previous albums, seven of which were bestsellers in the UK.

.....Shane and Mark both have real good voices!

I definitely agree with that.I've never seen the point of the Nicky & Kian.
I'd rather Westlife were just a duo !
I've not bought any of their albums but have d/l about 5 of their songs.
I think I'd be more likely to buy a solo Mark album or Shane, if/when it happens.

Sounds very very GOOD! Too many tracks. Another World Of Our Own!!!

Trivia:
What About Now is a 12 letter songtitle like Swear It Again, their debut single

I'm really 100x disappointed! All of the fans are disappointed! (but they can't let Westlife down) but this deserves to be a flop! this will be out in Ireland this Friday. no airplays, no video.

this will be released together with This Is It on Oct 26 UK. Maybe Sony thought of that many people will go out to buy MJ's new album and with Westlife's same date of new release, the public may be carried to buy Westlife's new single too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_It_%28Michael_Jackson_album%29#Release_his tory

On the second thought, What About Now may not be the real first single if that's what you call it. They may release another on the last week of November. they released a good to cover song for Westlife so that the general audience may not be in shock.

here's a portion of an interview with Mark:

Mark Feehily tells us: "We wanted the first single from our new album to be somewhere between the Westlife sound our fans know and love, and the new direction we're heading in.

We've been experimenting with a fresh vibe on this record. After 11 years we see this as phase two of the Westlife story."

Let's hope it's as good as phase one.

also, in a short span of time with no promo (the XFactor only), no news if a music video will be out and no new photoshoots yet for the album and even the official single. It's a crap a clustered images of them from the past only....

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x18/lindsay-pops/cover2.jpg

idk but when I heard the 16 track album, they made me feel happy again. I have their faith in them, I trust them and I know they can do what we want :)

I'm listening to the 30 sec clip all over again it's like Daughtry featuring Shane

Oh I see. Wasn't it that Jeff Buckley and Alex's versions of Hallelujah charts very well last year. that's why record company are doing and trying it again. Now I understand

^ LMAO!

About the same. Although the cover does look a little odd and anal - its almost as if they've exactly measured the distance between each of the singers! :P

I like their version of What About Now though ;) Wonder if it will go to number one in the UK this week ... their last studio set shifted over 130,000 copies during week one - but they are opposed by the all-dominant Susan Boyle's second week. I think they will settle for top 5 and think themselves lucky! :P
