The UK has a new number 1 single, courtesy of this weeks highest new entry which belongs to UK Garage acts collaboration Roll Deep which includes artists such as Wiley, Skepta. The single ‘Green Light’ is the follow up to ‘Good times’ which had a 3 week run at number 1 back in May. ‘Green Light’ is straight in at the top, immediately becoming their 4th UK Top 40 hit and the 2nd number 1 hit for the collaboration. Flo Rida's 'Club can't handle me' which climbed to number 1 last week, is down 2 places at 3.
So, it seems it wasn't meant to be for Eminem and Rihanna’s ‘Love the way you lie’ which is once again stuck at number 2 after being in the lead for number 1 for most of this week. If it had hit the top it would've been the first hit to have an 8 week run in the top 10 before reaching number 1 since All Saints’ ‘Never ever’ did the same in late 1997 – Early 1998. 'Love the way you lie' is the only song inside this weeks top 5 that hasn't reached the top and it's highest of 5 non-movers in a very static top 10. Also not moving are Yolanda be cool's 'We no speak americano' at 4, NeYo's 'Beautiful monster' at 5, Travie McCoy's 'Billionaire' at 6 and Eliza Doolittle's 'Pack up' at 9.
Just outside the top 10 is this weeks second highest new entry, courtesy of electronic production duo Chase and Status; ‘Let you go’ is their second UK Top 40 hit, debuting this week at 11, following up ‘End Credits’, which peaked at 9 last November.
Also making a return to the chart this week is Romanian dance singer Inna. ‘Amazing’ is new at 14 following up her debut hit ‘Hot’ which peaked at 6 back in April of this year.
This weeks final new entry marks the long awaited return of UK indie act One Night Only. ‘Say you didn’t want it’ is new at 23, it’s the bands 3rd UK Top 40 hit; they were last in the chart with ‘It’s about time’ which peaked at 37 in May 2008, their biggest hit is of course ‘Just for tonight’ which reached number 9 in February 2008.
Comiserations to the hits moving down the chart for the first time: at 16 is Tinchy Stryder's 'In my system', down 6 places after just 1 week in the top 10 at number 10, after being stuck at number 20 for 4 consecutive weeks, Usher's 'DJ got us falling in love' is down 1 at 21, Ellie Goulding's 'The writer' looks to have peaked at 19 as it's down 10 at 29 this week, and just hanging in to the top 40 for a 2nd week is Devlin's 'Brainwashed' at 40.
There's good news for Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina this week, their former number 4 hit 'Stereo love' is climbing back up for the 3rd consecutive week, it's up 1 at 22 now having rebounded 8 places in the past 3 weeks; the song is now clocking up its 15th week inside the top 30.
You'd have been forgiven last week for assuming DJ Fresh's 'Gold dust' was to be a flash in the pan after it dipped 3 places on only its 2nd charting week, but it seems there could be hope for the track yet, this week it's up 3 places and back at its original debut position of number 23.
The success of Train's 'Hey soul sister' just seems to be endless, in spite of the track only managing to peak at number 18, this week it's clocking up its 17th week inside the top 40 and is moving back up yet again; after stalling at 34 for the last 3 consecutive weeks, this week it's up 4 places and back in the top 30 at number 30.
There are 2 other long runners making chart u-turns at the bottom end of the top 40: in spite of Jason Derulo's latest hit 'What if' running out of steam without reaching the top 10, his former number 2 hit 'Ridin' solo' is back up 1 at number 37 in its 17th charting week and just below at 38 is a rise of 1 place for Shakira's 'Waka waka' which is now clocking up its 11th week inside the top 40 without having ever reached the top 20. As 'Waka waka' is the only lingerer from the World Cup hits, we must assume that this track has taken on a life of its own regardless of its football related origin.
Bubbling under...
After a 21 week chart run, Usher's former number 1 hit 'OMG' has finally left the chart, this week dipping 6 at 41. Also departing this week are Plan B's top 3 hit 'She said' which is down 6 at 43 after a 20 week chart run and
after 16 weeks in the chart Alicia Keys' former top 10 hit 'Try sleeping with a broken heart' is down 5 at 45.
Ke$ha could be about to score a new top 40 hit as 'Take it off' has risen 127 places and currently resides at 44. Iyaz also has a potential new hit bubbling under; 'So big' is up 52 places at number 54. Also climbing is Rihanna's 'Hard', up 39 places at 64 and Saturdays' 'Higher' is new at 86.
Next week...

Katy B's 'Katy on a mission' is newly available to download and is likely to enter in the top 10, as is Aggros Santos' 'Saint or sinner'. Brandon Flowers' 'Crossfire' is newly available in all formats and is likely to make a mark on next weeks chart as is Rumer's 'Slow'. The Pretty Reckless are hoping for a 2nd hit next week with vinyl/download track 'Miss nothing' and Biffy Clyro are likely to enter the chart with 'God and satan'. Inna's 'Amazing' could climb next week as it is now available physically.
