Brooke Hogan talks parents' divorce, new CD

Finding out that your parents have reached a settlement in their divorce isn't normally a "happy" moment for any 21-year-old. But when you're Brooke Hogan, and your parents have been going through a tabloid-worthy divorce, getting that kind of news is almost joyous.
"I was relieved to hear that the divorce was finally signed, sealed and delivered," she said in a recent interview. "They weren't good together. ... So it's like OK, everything's over, everything's done, you guys don't have to hate each other anymore."

Now that her superstar wrestler-dad Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, and his wife, Linda, have split, Hogan is ready to move on.

While Hogan still has her VH1 reality show, "Brooke Knows Best," she's more interested in promoting her music these days. She recently released her sophomore CD, "The Redemption."

AP: What's the message with the new CD?

Hogan: I named it "(The) Redemption" because I've been through so much that I feel like now at this point in my life I'm really settled, I'm really happy, I love the way my life is going ... I talked about all the things I went through but it's about taking the high road, and being happy and choosing the right path.

AP: Do you feel like you've established yourself as a singer?

Hogan: It's hard to crossover. First, I was doing the singing, and because I was Hulk Hogan's daughter, everyone was like, "Oh, it's handed to her. Oh, she looks like a wrestler herself." I mean they were hard on me from all angles, you just couldn't win. And then I started doing the TV show to kind of have a platform and get people to know me and stuff like that. But I did the TV show to help my singing, and people think that I'm a TV star that's trying to sing now, like Heidi Montag (of MTV's "The Hills") or something. I'm like, "No. It's different." The singing is the permanent thing, the TV show's what's going to come and go.

AP: Has your mother heard the "Dear Mom" song on the CD?

Hogan: I believe she has. I just haven't heard anything from it so if she has I don't know.

AP: What have you learned from the relationship you have with your mother?

Hogan: I don't know what my mom feels toward me or where the viciousness is coming from, but I just know that when I have kids I will protect them. I would do anything for my kids and for my family. I know that. Even now for my family I would do anything for them. I think just keep my head screwed on straight and always love my children and my family and know that that's really all you have at the end of the day.

AP: Now that you're 21, do you feel like you are where you want to be?

Hogan: I'm more true to myself. I feel like I was kind of raised to be mechanical like, "Hi, I'm Brooke Hogan, I'm Hulk Hogan's daughter. I like cookies and sunshine." You know? I was trying to be so perfect and so cookie-cutter because everyone's like, "Aim for that Disney audience! Be perfect! Don't say anything wrong!" And it's just working out better for me just being me.

Glad to see she's feeling a bit better!

not entirely convinced that she is mean to be a singer LOL

Hasn't her new album sold less that 4k in the US?

I seen somewhere that her first album has sold about 120k in total since 2006 too :(

Shame coz the song "Falling" from this CD was a tune, sounds like mid 90's RnB summer tune.

aah well

Her music is amazing, and her voice is actually really strong and quite soulful in some parts. She's so underrated, it's awful.

It's a shame she can't shake the Hogan tag she has, because I don't think people take her seriously enough. Shame, because her music is actually really good.

And she works so hard! Promoting, dancing, touring, recording - its sad to see such efforts go down the drain. Hulk must be mad; he invested over $2m in her career prior to her debut being released! :o

WHITNEY HOUSTON

Vocal acrobatics: 4/5. Still packs a mighty wallop, most notably on the skyscraping chorus of I Will Always Love You, though recent troubles may have dulled her vocal fire.
Elaborate outfits: 2/5. Never known for her style, she looks far from sexy on the cover of the new album, though it’s better than some of the tabloid shots during her lowest ebb.
Ridiculous demands: 3/5. Not so nutty really, though she did require an armoured car to take her on a tour of south-east Asia in 2004.
Rocky relationships: 5/5. Married to jailbird Bobby Brown from 1992 to 2007, their relationship was the subject of many drug rumours. He was charged with misdemeanour battery for allegedly striking her in 2003.
Quotability: 4/5. Most infamously: “We don’t do crack… Crack is wack.”
Fragrance: 0/5. None to date.
New album: I Look to You, released 19 October on Arista.

SHAKIRA

Vocal acrobatics: 3/5. More of a semi-yodel than the full hairdryer effect.
Elaborate outfits: 4/5. Not a big fan of clothes. Favours leotards in her latest video. Midriff exposed whatever the weather.
Ridiculous demands: 2/5. “Six bananas, five peaches and three mangoes” were required before one gig.
Rocky relationships: 2/5. Engaged forever to Antonio de la Rúa, son of the former president of Argentina. Almost certainly the only diva to count a Nobel Prize-winning author among her biggest fans, Gabriel Garcia Márquez.
Quotability: 5/5. Who could forget Whenever, Wherever’s classic couplet: “Lucky that my breasts are small and humble/So you don’t confuse them with mountains”?
Fragrance: 4/5. Amuleto, which reflects “an ethnic mixture of her soul and Latin sensuality, with exotic Arabian passion”.
New album: She Wolf, released 12 October on RCA.

LEONA LEWIS

Vocal acrobatics: 4/5. So far ahead of her X Factor competitors it was embarrassing.
Elaborate outfits: 2/5. Every day’s a wedding day for Leona. It’s one posh gown after another.
Ridiculous demands: 1/5. “I don’t need anything special to be happy. I have everything I need,” she says. Boring!
Rocky relationships: 1/5. Boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa is an electrician from Hackney she has known since she was 10.
Quotability: 1/5. “I’m not a loud, extravagant person. I’m never going to be that.” As bland as a professional golfer.
Fragrance: 3/5. Leona Lewis, an ethical perfume including blood orange, “passion-filled musk” and “bewildering currant”.
New album: Echo, released 16 November on Sony.

MARIAH CAREY

Vocal acrobatics: 5/5. A five-octave range. That’s a lot of notes.
Elaborate outfits: 3/5. Favours the leggy and busty, or simply a strategically placed hat on the Touch My Body single sleeve.
Ridiculous demands: 4/5. Ferries her Jack Russell around by chauffeur-driven Mercedes, though the believable notion that she “doesn’t do stairs” is sadly a myth.
Rocky relationships: 4/5. Side Effects, a song about her marriage to Tommy Mottola, mentions “violent times”.
Quotability: 4/5. “Butterflies follow me wherever I go.”
Fragrance: 5/5. M, combining incense, tiara flower and marshmallow, “embodies Mariah’s sensuality, beauty and glamour”.
New album: Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, released 28 September on Mercury.

Ruff Me Up could be such a success! Damn it annoys me how much this girl can't get a hit. Maybe she should stick to songwriting, and make her money like that

:DeAd: Wayne are you serious saying she sounds like Kerli?, that track sounds like a terrible version of the terrible song 'Womanizer' from Britney Spears, all I could here was this backing she doesn't have a voice! You obviously haven't listened to the tracks I listed in her topic! xx

ah ok, I understand a tad better now, but even then she sounds nufin like her! lol I've listened to 'Let Go' for the 1st time today and was really shocked!!! It sounded nothing like her at all, the song is very upbeat and positive, it's not a bad song but it's too fluffy for me on 1st listen, her 'Love Is Dead' album really shows off a great voice, I'll post some links on her topic! :) xx

LOL and another thing, don't categorize Brooke based off Ruff Me Up alone! :( My favourite songs of hers are Hey Yo and Moving On
