Continue reading, you have not accidentally clicked on chart from 1999! It's almost unheard of in recent years, but all 5 of this weeks new entries are inside the top 10, 3 of which are in the top 5 and one of which has entered at the top. So the boy bands are well and truly back; the debut single by UK's The Wanted 'All time low' is straight in at number 1 and they are joining the list of acts to spend their first ever week in the UK chart at number 1, although one member of the band, Max George has reached the top 50 in the past as part of a less successful boyband named Avenue.
The 2nd highest new entry belongs to Travie McCoy, a US hip-hop star, part of Gym Class Heroes who have had 3 UK top 10 hits, most recently with 'Cookie jar' in late 2008. The new track 'Billionaire' is straight in at number 3 and immediately matches the number 3 peak of Gym Class Heroes' biggest UK hit 'Cupid's Chokehold' back in 2007. Travie has had another hit outside of the group as he featured on Kelly Rowland's 'Daylight' which peaked at 14 in May of 2008. 'Billionaire' also features vocals from Bruno Mars, who has only previously charted in the UK alongside B.o.B on the number 1 hit 'Nothin on you', which currently resides at 37.
Straight in at number 5 is the newest offering from US hip hop starTramar Dillard, better known as Flo Rida and DJ David Guetta. The song, entitled 'Club can't handle me' is Flo Rida's 8th UK Top 40 hit, 2 of his previous hits topped tthe chart, most recently alongside Alexandra Burke on 'Bad boys' in October of last year. 'Club can't handle me' is immediately Flo's 3rd top 5 hit and brings David Guetta's UK Top 40 hit count up to 9; he has of course had 3 chart toppers in the past, his most recent 'Gettin over you' is still in the top 40 as is his recent top 10 collaboration with Kelly Rowland, 'Commander'.
New at number 7 is 'One', the chart debut for Swedish House DJ's Axwell, Steve Angelo and Sebastian Ingrosso, better known as Swedish House Mafia. The track also features US hip hop star Pharrell who has himself had 10 UK Top 40 hits, the biggest being 'Can I have it like that' which peaked at number 3 in November of 2005, his last chart success was 'Number one' which peaked at 31 in August 2006. By entering at 7, 'One' is now Pharrell's 5th top 10 hit.
The final new entry belongs to 2 acts, both making chart debuts; 'I need air' by electro music DJ's Magnetic Man and Angela Hunt.
The pressure from the new arrivals in the top 10 is blatant throughout the chart with only 1 record climbing to a new peak this week, Jason Derulo's 'What if' which is up 4 places to number 15 in its 3rd charting week. The only other climber is Rihanna's 'Te Amo' which is back up 2 places at 33, now in its 13th charting week.
So moving down tha chart this week is Yolanda Be Cool's 'We no speak Americano', after climbing to the top last week, this week it's down to 2nd place. Eminem and Rihanna's 'Love the way you lie' is also moving down, after consitant climbing for the past 5 weeks, this week it's down 2 at number 4, leaving fans wondering if it will now miss out on hitting the top. After moving up to number 5 last week, this week Eliza Doolittle's 'Pack up' has been nudged down 3 places at number 8 and after a fortnight at number 6, Mark Ronson's 'Bang Bang Bang' is down 5 at number 11. Also further down, Plan B's 'Prayin' is falling for the first time having climbed last week, down 6 at 22 as is Drake's 'Find your love', down 1 at 25.
All of last weeks new entries have failed to climb as a result of the excess top 10 traffic; Usher's 'DJ got us falling in love' is a non-mover at 20, Diana Vickers' 'The boy who murdered love is a non-mover at 36, Scouting for Girls' 'Famous' is down a place at 38, Basshunter's 'Saturday' has plummeted 19 places at 40 and Pendulum's 'Witchcraft' has left the top 40.Alexandra Burke's former top 5 hit 'All night long' has also departed, down 5 at 44 and Skepta's minor hit 'Rescue me' is down 10 at 42.
Next week....
Flo Rida and David Guetta's 'Club can't handle me' is available physically this week which could help it to climb, as could the 'Step up 3' movie arriving in cinemas on Friday. Ne-Yo is expected to return to the chart next week as his new single 'Beautiful monster' is newly available for download. The Hoosiers are also expected to chart next week as their new download-only song 'Choices' is out today. DJ Fresh is likely to make a Top 40 debut with download-only track 'Gold dust'. Young Money could also chart next week as the follow up to 'Bedrock', 'Every girl in the world' is out physically this week.
