Last weeks top 3 was made up of 3 climbers; B.o.B's 'Airplanes' moved up a place to number 1, Yolanda Be Cool's 'We no speak americano' jumped up to number 2, and Eminem & Rihanna's 'Love the way you lie' crept up to number 3. This week the top 3 contains the same records but in a different order; up a place at number 1 is Yolanda Be Cool, Eminem and Rihanna are up a place at 2, and B.o.B's 'Airplanes' is down to number 3 after just 1 week at the top. Eminem's 'Love the way you lie' is now his biggest hit since 'Smack that' reached number 1 in 2006. At number 4 is another former number 1 hit, Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg's 'California gurls' is the highest of 7 non movers inside the top 20, now spending its 5th week inside the top 5. Eliza Doolittle's 'Pack up' rounds off the top 5 this week; it's up a further 3 places at number 5, it's certainly the biggest hit of her career in the UK, far exceeding the number 22 peak of her debut single 'Skinny genes' back in April.
There's another non-mover at number 6; Mark Ronson's 'Bang bang bang' is staying put at the position it debuted at last week, Professor Green and Lily Allen's 'Just be good to green' hasn't been as fortunate however, it's down 2 at 7 having been last weeks highest new entry at 5. Moving back up a place at 8 is Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull's 'I like it', now clocking up its 4th week inside the top 10, having peaked at 4 so far. Pitbull also has 2 other hits inside the top 40 which are discussed below.
The high volume of non-movers this week represents a host of hits that have moved down but are currently stalling; at 10 is 3oh!3 and Ke$ha's number 7 hit 'My first kiss' in its 3rd charting week, remaining at 11 is Lady Gaga's 'Alejandro' which has also peaked at 7 so far, currently in its 9th charting week, at 12 is Kylie Minogues' former number 3 hit 'All the lovers' in its 6th charting week, holding on at 13 is Example's 'Kickstarts' which also peaked at 3 and is in its 6th charting week, and finally at 18 is David Guetta and Chris Willis' former number 1 hit 'Gettin over you' in its 8th charting week. There are also chart u-turners in the mix as Kelly Rowland's former top 10 hit 'Commander' is back up 1 at 14 in its 7th charting week and Tinie Tempah's former number 2 hit 'Frisky' is back up 2 at 17, currently in its 7th charting week.
Is this weeks lack of movement in the top 20 due to a lack of new hits and climbers? Not especially as there are some big new hits on the way up.....
Plan B's 'Prayin' is up 1 place further and hitting another new peak of number 16 in its 4th charting week, incidentally Plan B's last hit 'She said' which peaked at number 3 in April is also climbing this week, back up 8 places at 25.
Shooting up into the top 20 this week is Jason Derulo's 'What if'; after a number 40 debut last week, this week it's up 19 places to become his 4th top 20 out of 4 singles. All of his other hits have reached the top 3, including 'Ridin solo' which is still around, this week spending its 13th charting week at number 23.
This weeks highest new entry belongs to US R'n'B star Usher and US Rapper Pitbull. The song entitled 'DJ got us falling in love' is straight in at number 20. It's Usher's 16th UK Top 40 hit, his last being his 4th number 1 hit 'OMG'. It's Pitbull's 7th UK Top 40 hit, his biggest being 'I know you want me' last summer, 'All night long' in April and 'I like it' earlier this month, all of which peaked at number 4. Both artists can currently boast multiple chart hits: Usher's former chart topper 'OMG' is in fact moving back up the chart at 22 in its 18th charting week. As for Pitbull, his recent hit with Enrique Iglesias 'I like it' is moving up at number 9 (as discussed above) and his collaboration with Alexandra Burke, 'All night long' is currently number 39.
This weeks 2nd highest new entry is at 21, a 7th UK hit for Swedish producer/singer/song writer Basshunter. The track entitled 'Saturday' is his first single since 'Every morning' peaked at 17 last October, his biggest hit is of course his 2008 number 1 hit 'Now you're gone'.
Climbing to a new peak this week is Drake's 'Find your love' is up a further 4 places at number 24.
New at 29 this week is a 5th hit for Australian alternative rock act Pendulum; 'Witchcraft' follows up 'Watercoulor' which peaked at 4 in May and is their biggest hit to date.
There are 2 acts with new hits side by side at the bottom end of the top 40 who hit the top with their last singles; at 36 is 'The boy who murdered love' by UK singer Diana Vickers, following up her debut short-lived number 1 hit 'Once' from May. At 37 is Brit-pop group Scouting for girls new single 'Famous' following up their chart topper 'This aint a love song' from April. 'Famous' is the bands 8th UK Top 40 hit.
After a 6 week journey to number 21, this week Shakira's 'Waka waka' has finally dipped, down 13 at 34. Also falling for the first time is MIA's 'XXXO', down 14 from its number 26 debut last week to this weeks number 40.
Once again, Train's 'Hey soul sister' deserves a mention; this week it's up 1 at number 31, it's been yo-yoing around the chart since early May and is still yet to climb higher than number 18.
This weeks chart casualties include Ke$ha's 'Your love is my drug' (down 6 at 41) and Aggros Santos' 'Candy' (down 6 at 43).
Bubbling under...
Journey's timeless 'Don't stop believing' climbed outside the top 40 this week and narrowly missed out on re-entering the chart, Ellie Goudling's new single 'The writer' has arrived at number 68 and 'Islands' by The XX is new at 96.
Next week...
Yolanda Be Cool will face strong competition from some potentially big new arrivals. Travie McCoy(part of Gym Class Heroes) and Bruno Mars' 'Billionaire' is likely to enter high next week, as are the debut hit for new boyband The Wanted entitled 'All time low', Magnetic Man's 'I need air and Swedish House Mafia's 'One' all of which are available physically and for download this week. Plan B's 'Prayin' is likely to make further progress as it is available physically this week.
