Sean Kingston Writing for Rihanna

Sean Kingston is bringing his own island flavor to Rihanna’s new album. The Jamaican singer is writing for his friend from across the waters.

“Me and my producer Yankee, we cooking up some stuff,” Sean exclusively reveals to Rap-Up.com. “Her people said we want some stuff for Rihanna ’cause I’m from Jamaica. I got the island feel, so I’m writing some stuff right now for her new album.”

The “Fire Burning” chart-topper admires his Barbados pal for staying true to her homeland after fame. “You know what I like about her? She’s never changed. Even when her music changed, she always represented for the Caribbean, always represented for Barbados,” he adds, “and that’s what Sean Kingston does. He represents for Jamaica. Anything I do, I always put Jamaica in there. You can’t leave where you’re coming from and I like that about her.”

Whenever the two run into each other, they always have something in common. “Every time we see each other, we talk in our accent. She’s funny. She’s dope. I like her.”

In addition to Rihanna, the 19-year-old is writing for Fantasia’s new album. Listen to Sean pen his own hits when his sophomore album Tomorrow arrives on September 22.

Angrier, Edgier and Ready to Roar?

It sounds like Rihanna is getting ready to sound off on you know what. While Chris Brown may have made his first public statements to Larry King, Rihanna could be using music to have her say.

Music impresario Ne-Yo told E! at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards that he’s been in the studio writing with Rihanna for her next album—and it’s certainly no sweet ballads they’ve been working on together.

“Expect an edgier, almost angrier Rihanna on this one,” Ne-Yo said.

And a much more forthcoming Rihanna, too.

“Rihanna says some things on this album that you’ve never heard her say before,” Ne-Yo said.

Akon also revealed that he’s working with Rihanna, too.

“I’m not supposed to say anything but I’m going to work on as many songs as possible with her,” he said.

However, Akon will likely stick with the sunnier side of things.

“I’m going to lighten her up,” Akon said. “I don’t want an angry Rihanna.”

Both men insisted they have no clue as to when the album will be released.

It was definitely a lightened-up Rihanna having a good time at the House of Hype lounge’s pre-VMA festivities at the Rivington Hotel. She was spotted hanging at the Nivea-sponsored Directors’ Dinner with Pink, Timbaland and Lance Bass.

Ellen von Unwerth to shoot the next album cover

Yesterday at Gareth Pugh’s fashion event, Rihanna was seen sitting next to famous photographer Ellen von Unwerth. Ellen is rumoured to shoot the album cover for Rihanna’s upcoming album! Rihanna has also told there’s a reason why she’s decided to attent Paris Fashion Week.

I’m shopping for what I’m going to wear on the cover,’ she said.

DailyMail reports that the star is also bringing out her own clothing line and has vowed it will be ‘fun and edgy and badass’.

Rihanna’s Stylist Speaks on Her Style and Upcoming Shoot

You’ve seen her transform from Island Princess to pop sensation, an avant garde fashion icon for her generation. Rihanna, despite the drama, is a true Style Star.
RadarOnline.com got a chance to speak with the woman behind her image, stylist extraordinaire Mariel Haenn, who has created singular looks for the likes of Riri, Ciara, Jay-Z and Jada Pinkett.

Haenn gave us some insight on what to expect from Rihanna as she prepares to release her follow up record to the smash Good Girl Gone Bad.

“It’s definitely going to be Rihanna in the raw state we’ve seen her in lately,” Haenn says of the album artwork, shooting next week in Berlin.

“Though she’s an icon right now, this crazy super glam, we’re going to see her being real–human.”

While naturally details are mum on the goods Rihanna will be sporting, Haenn is jetting off to Paris for Fashion Week with Ri, where the two will draw inspiration from Spring 2010 collections. (Hint: both the gals love Gareth Pugh).

When Rihanna is off the clock, strength is a central theme in both her style and her personal life.

“She hates too soft and girly,” Heann says, “she still plays with her girly side, but there’s always a tough piece somewhere, with edge.”

Rihanna’s Rated R Is ‘So Great,’ Producer Says

When Rihanna released “Russian Roulette,” the lead single from Rated R on Tuesday, a lot of people were surprised that it wasn’t some empowering club banger.

And although reactions are mixed when it comes to the haunting song about an abusive relationship, Chuck Harmony, who produced it with Ne-Yo, insists that the track and the album are a reflection of Rihanna’s growth as an artist.

Harmony told MTV News that no matter how you feel about the track, the album will prove that Rihanna is the Madonna of her generation. “I sat through mix sessions and I heard some of the songs on the record. It fits in well,” he said of “Russian Roulette.”

The song is a bit darker than some of Rihanna’s past singles, but Harmony said that isn’t indicative of the rest of the album. “I think Rihanna has captured what her old fans are used to, as well as the growth of an artist. ‘Russian Roulette,’ to me, is a shining example of her growth and her artistic expression,” he said. ” ‘Russian Roulette’ is definitely taking her to another level. I think she’s a pop icon, so her music should reflect that.”

Harmony added that he still can’t believe his track was picked to kick off her comeback, because there was just too much great material to pick from. “I was actually shocked I got the first single ’cause the album is so great,” he said.

Although Harmony is one of Rihanna’s colleagues, he says he’s just as interested as anyone in how the singer is marketing herself, including the single’s provocative cover art. “It fits in with the song,” he said of the photo. “The way it’s unfolding is so genius. Like, ‘The wait is ova’ [message on her site]. I was waiting too. I wanted to see the cover, I wanted to hear the song. It’s one of those records where you just don’t know. It’s not a faith record. It’s one of those thought-provoking records.”

You've probably seen Rihanna's racy single cover, and now PopEater is proud to exclusively premiere the cover for her impending album, 'Rated R.' The grainy black-and-white cover shows the R&B queen draped in hand jewelry and covering one eye.

The album, which is set to be released on Monday, Nov. 23, is Rihanna's first album since 2007's 'Good Girl Gone Bad.'

It is also Rihanna's first album since she was assaulted by boyfriend Chris Brown in February.

The 'Rated R' cover was shot by famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who says that "Rihanna was looking to create something a bit new for the look of the album."

Von Unwerth goes on to say that Rihanna is "so beautiful, sweet and tough at the same time -- and a pleasure to shoot," adding that she's "fantastic to work with -- very giving, very creative, very involved in every aspect of the shoot, and ready to push the boundaries."

The first single off of 'Rated R' is a slowed-down track titled 'Russian Roulette,' a dark tune in which Rihanna sings: "And you can see my heart beating / You can see it through my chest / And I'm terrified but I'm not leaving / Know that I must must pass this test / So just pull the trigger." The run of shows was due to start in Washington, US, on Friday (02.07.10) but the first gig has been scrapped due to “production changes”.

It is believed the next date, in Vancouver, Canada, will go ahead on Sunday (04.07.10), with the other dates scheduled to run as planned.

Despite the new start date the support acts remain the same with pop starlet Kesha and Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy joining Rihanna, 22, on the road.

Rihanna recently spoke about her excitement about going on the road, promising fans a bigger and better show than ever before.

She said: “We’ve never done a tour to this capacity. The production is unbelievable and the costumes, we just took it to a whole new level.

“Visually and sonically it’s going to be a big step up from the last time. We just keep growing, and this time it is a massive production that I cannot wait for.”

According to the Bastion of Truth that is MediaTakeOut.com (Yeah, I know. They’re about as reliable as The National Enquirer.), Rihanna was kicked out of an unidentified hotel in her native Barbados last week after she was busted smoking marijuana in her suite.

The singer’s joint puffing set off smoke alarms, causing security to investigate, celeb-gawkers tell the site. Cops weren’t called, but Rihanna has reportedly been banned from the ritzy digs after her room was left trashed and reeking of reefer.
