Simon Cowell is hoping that Madonna and Shakira will agree to appear on The X Factor this year, it has been claimed.

The music mogul has reportedly requested a bigger budget for the ITV1 talent show's new series as part of a plan to lure bigger names for the live episodes.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "Simon is the most powerful man in TV these days and he's in a position to call the shots.

"ITV are happy to back him - and he's determined to repay their faith by getting the biggest names in the world, including Madonna."

A second insider added: "Shakira's a massive international star and Simon's determined to get her on board."

Last year's run saw appearances from Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears, helping the series to be the most successful yet.

The X Factor returns to ITV1 later this month.

I hope Louis doesn't win this year just to see him sulk again. And can we have a different place for the judges' home for him??? Having it in Ireland all the time is pretty predictable by now....

Minogue, Walsh end 'X Factor' feud

Minogue, Walsh end 'X Factor' feud

WENN

Dannii Minogue has patched up her differences with X Factor co-star Louis Walsh, according to a report.

The pair fell out during Minogue's first series in 2007 after Walsh mocked the singer's pop career on a live show, claiming that she has never had a hit single.

Last year, relations between the judges worsened when Minogue was reduced to tears live on air following a spat with the boyband manager. Walsh later accused her of faking the breakdown.

Minogue and Walsh are now busy filming for the forthcoming sixth series alongside fellow panellists Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole.

A source told The Mirror: "Over the last few days, it's been a love-fest between Dannii and Louis. During breaks in filming the pair have been hanging out together, gossiping and giggling like schoolgirls.

"They have also been plotting ways to wind up Simon Cowell. They're not freezing Cheryl Cole out intentionally but she has so much going on at the moment that she just shows up, does what's required, then leaves.

"I think Louis just realised he was too harsh with Dannii last year."

Minogue reportedly demanded fairer treatment on The X Factor before signing her contract earlier this year.

The ITV1 talent show returns to screens later this month.

i love the x factor, the auditions are funny (so many people making fools of them selves!)

i'll be sure to watch when it gets going, we need new tallent (have not heard anything from any of the x factor winners) for a long long time

The only previous winners who I think are anyway decent are Shayne and Leona. It was a complete joke when Leon won instead of Rhydian, but look what happened there...

The auditions are indeed the best part but who could forget this???

He's just so arrogant and childish! I can remember when he won with Shayne Ward! So annoying! (not that Shayne won, just that Louis was mentoring him!!)

I hope we get a big voiced male (ala Shayne) win this year. Or a group (I loved Hope from one of the series and JLS were good too)

Blossom
08-04-2009, 11:04 AM
I didn't like Hope at all but JLS were not bad at all. I wish they had won last year instead of Alexandra. She's just like Leona except with added personality.

Blossom
08-04-2009, 02:51 PM
Of the winners it would probably be Shayne (even though his songs aren't really my cup of tea).

I also loved Ruth and Diana from last year.

The only series I've missed so far is the third one when Leona won as I was away in Germany that year.

My most hated would be Steve Brookstein, Leon and Same Difference.

Wayne
08-04-2009, 06:10 PM
Oh Leon was so overrated. I loved Rhydian that year so was peeved of when Leon won. Steve was just a flash in the pan. Same Difference personified weird imo. Just something not quite right.

I love Shayne - he has had some class tunes. OMG @ you liking Ruth - she was my favourite contestant last year, and in my top 3 of all time! :) Can you remember Brenda Edwards - black girl with a huge voice...Sharon Osbourne mentored her I believe, and she made the top 5 same year as Shayne won I think...? She's my fave contestant ever ! :D

Blossom
08-04-2009, 09:03 PM
I loved Brenda as well. She should have been in the final instead of Journey South.

I remember watching it a couple of years ago when Leon won. Just before his name was announced my brother said, "Leon's won" even though we all loved Rhydian. I absolutely loved the latter's performance of "Go West".

Yeah I kind of agree. I think she'll hit it quite big here, and she'll have a shot at Australia too. She's got a lot of competition from Jade Ewen though, who imo is as good a singer as Leona!

Kandy Rain tipped for X Factor finals

HERE is a first glimpse of sexy girl group Kandy Rain - tipped to make The X Factor's live finals after bowling over the judges.
Stunning Azi Jegbefume, Khatereh Dovani, Coco Lloyd and Chemmane Applewhaite are being billed as the UK's version of Pussycat Dolls.

The girls hope the public will love them as much as X Factor boss Simon Cowell and his fellow judges Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.

A source close to the ITV1 show said: "Kandy Rain are one of the most professional bands the judges have ever seen. They were impressed by their singing and blown away by their dancing and image. It could be the first time a group has won the competition."

Dance teacher Chemmane, from Basingstoke, Hants, told how her life changed when she met the other girls at a London X Factor audition and the group was born.

She said: "These girls are my soul mates. We will show determination till the end."

Dubliner Azi, who represented Ireland as an athlete in her teens, added: "With Kandy Rain, it fits like a glove. The chemistry between us is so real."

She said of Chemmane, Hertfordshire-born Coco and Khatereh, from West London: They're like my sisters and I love them."

Leona - £10m
Alexandra - £1.5m
Shayne - £500k
Steve - £200k
Leon - £100k

Britain's biggest talent show returns for a brand new series. Judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh sift through a record-breaking number of applicants, who this year must audition in front of a studio audience and the panel. The heats start in London, before moving on to Manchester and Glasgow. Watch out for Simon and Louis falling out over a pair of Irish twins. I can't believe they brought the sob stories back. I was so happy last week when we had none. Also did no one else think when the boy came running out that it was so obvious that they'd told him to do it, I mean they had a camera positioned to catch his running on. The sex on fire man was okay but really annoyed me when he held up the mike for the crowd to sing instead of him, I nearly threw something at my tele. I liked the woman from T&T tho, probably my fav so far.

Okay, so my third spammy post! Here is my verdict:

Nicole - blew the rest away. Her performance was so riddled with emotion; at her audition, I thought Simon was too harsh - I ranked her amongst the best I heard during the audition stages! Anyway, her performance last night should silence any doubters. It was astoundingly brilliant - I think she should gradually phase out the sob story though - I don't think she's putting it on, I think she genuinely is feeling that emotion - but the backgrounds can tend to put some viewers off.

Also, is the world ready for a 'large' pop star? I know asking that question is probably ethically wrong, but Michelle McManus went into oblivion, as did Rik Waller. Jennifer Hudson has had to tone down a lot. In this image obsessed world, how does she stack up? I think her voice is amazing, and her size isn't an issue for me personally, but will it affect her chances of winning? :?

The whole country hates them already, Louis is so out of touch it's unreal. I feel so sorry for Miss Frank because Louis is going to ruin them. He will probably put them in flowery dresses and make them sing "Flying Without Wings"

My predictions for each category in the live show are:

1) the groups - 'Miss Frank' will be the last group left (hopefully John and Edward go next week followed by the PCD mark #2 the following week)
2) the boys - Rikki and Joseph will be there for a while
3) the girls - Stacy and Lucie will be there the longest
4) the over 25s - Jamie and Olly will go the furthest

Overall, I think the over 25s are the strongest category this year.

Also, wasn't it so cruel when Simon made Jamie think he was going home as a non-finalist before he finished his sentence?

Seeing as though the British public are LAME. I think the twins won't be eliminated until a few weeks in. As said above, they will no doubt be this years Chico. Pffft. Louis is so out of touch with reality.

I think either Simon or Dannii will win. Probably Simon, although I'm personally rooting for Dannii as I prefer female vocalists! Although I won't make my preferences until I've seen the live shows :)

So excited for Robbie & Alexandra to perform!!

^ I thought it was so dramatic!
I can't believe she even had to have a re-think about that guy. I don't know why he even auditioned for X-Factor. He should have done BGT.

And he reminded me SO much of a guy I know from Uni. Actually, it was uncanny.

in the most part I agreed with the choices, well except for the twins and Kandy Rain (no likability)

I also don't think Danyl Johnson should have gone through, he hasn't had 1 good performance since his first audition and he is very annoying and cocky.

I think they shoudl have missed him and put Nicole through, she had really worked hard and progressed from her first audition.

I totally agree about Danyl and the cockiness. He annoys the hell out of me at the moment. No big voiced divas through - that's what annoys me! :( What about Whitney week - who's going to do the real big ballads?! Lucie's range seems limited - Nicole's and Treyc's wasn't!

Miss Frank - Who's Loving You
Kandy Rain - Addicted To Love

Rikki - Back To Black

Neil
10-10-2009, 08:09 PM
:O @ Dannii calling Danyl gay. He looked mortified. She is totally public enemy #1 now.

Anyway, I was majorly disappointed by every single performer tonight.
I had high hopes for Stacie and Lucie, and I thought they both sucked.

I think Simon's 3 were the best (Danyl > Jamie > Ollie) and Miss Frank weren't bad either. But yeah, I expected so much more from Stacie & Lucie :/ I did enjoy all 3 of Simon's lads, but I just did expect more. Jamie obviously didn't take Robbie's advice as it was boring until after the first chorus, but then it was great. Ollie's would have been better if he hadn't looked so ridiculously cheesy, I was cringing. And Danyl was a 9/10 for me, but I would have wanted him to belt a bit more. But I was still thoroughly impressed with him, but only him.

I was saying to my Mum; Leona has ruined this show for me. I expect someone to come and blow me a way with a world class performance from the word go now.

Edit: Dannii is totally being crucified on Facebook & Twitter for what she said!
Personally I didn't think it was a 'bad' thing to say. I mean, the woman's a total fag hag she obviously meant no harm in it, it was just completely irrelevant. It came across really badly

What the hell was wrong with Simon last night??? I thought it was disgraceful when he called two of the members of 'Miss Frank' book ends!

I'm still puzzled by what Dannii meant by her Danyl comment. If he's gay, so what? He should be entitled to sing any song at all without having people questioning his sexuality.

My favourite performances last night were Lucie and Joe. My predictions for the Bottom 3 are Kandy Rain, Lloyd and John and Edward, although I think it will ultimately turn into another popularity contest like last year.

Wayne
10-11-2009, 09:10 PM
Indeed, RIP Stephen.

From last night, my favourite performances were Joe, Stacey Solomon, Danyl, & Jamie. Joe's performance in particular mesmerized me from the opening second. It was one of my favourite performances in X Factory history, and he brought a rather (IMO) lifeless song to life! Love it!

Regarding the Dannii comment, yes she is being crucified. But I completely get where she's coming from - why should Danyl have changed the lyric from boy to girl, or rather why didn't he say boy, instead of girl, IF the rumours surrounding his sexuality are indeed true (and I believe they are). Dannii is indeed public enemy #1 now - why did she open her bloody mouth, and just when the public was warming to her?!

James

I don't think there was any malace in Dannii's words, just maybe a little bit of stupidity. She shouldn't have mentioned anything. He can sing what he wants..... she shoudl have jusdged the performance and not one word

Dannii Minogue's controversial sexuality remark has sparked almost 4,000 complaints to Ofcom from X Factor viewers.

Minogue provoked anger on Saturday night by discussing contestant Danyl Johnson's personal life live on air after he changed the lyrics of 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' to make reference to a woman rather than a man.

Referring to a tabloid interview which saw Johnson confirming that he is bisexual, the singer said: "If we're to believe everything we read in the papers, there was no need to change the gender references."

The media regulator has now confirmed that it has received 3,885 complaints over the incident, The Guardian reports.

Minogue made an on-air apology in Sunday's results show. She was also backed by Johnson's mentor Simon Cowell.

It is thought that Ofcom has not yet decided whether to launch a formal investigation into whether the comment breached the broadcasting code.

Minogue's sister Kylie, Cowell's sidekick Sinitta and Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton have all spoken out to defend the star in recent days.

James

[center:2cn616c0]WAYNE'S X-FACTOR COMMENTARY

Lucie
The Leona shrills have got to go. Leona only shrilled when she couldn't reach a note, and she'd be forced to switch to head voice i.e. in All By Myself, Bridge Over Troubled Water. To eliminate the comparisons, she has to set herself apart - individuality! The performance itself was solid - lovely to see something new from her! 7/10

Olly
I watched it back after seeing Shane/Spartan's comments - ohmy! It was actually quite a sexy performance. However, as good as he and Simon think he is, he murdered Tina Turner. Fool In Love is one of my favourite songs of all-time and watching it back, he murdered it! By his standards, it was a good performance. 7.5/10

Miss Frank
Something was missing, admittedly. But it wasn't the vocals. They were spot on! One of my favourite performances of the night; however I think Simon's blatant disregard for the other judge's acts may cost them dearly tonight. 8.5/10

Rachel
I think she did well, very well. She doesn't have a Beyonce/Christina type range, but she didn't play it safe, which I think she should be applauded for. Lovely performance, okay vocal! 7/10

Joe
Still, by far my favourite contestant. His vocal was the best of the night - as Simon said, it was note perfect. I don't understand the performance criticism though - he has a Leona like shyness about him which I think is endearing and shines through on his performance (as seen in the I Gotta Feeling group performance), but he has a personality that also shines through. AMAZING performance tonight for me (not as good as last week's, but still by far the best of the show). 10/10

Danyl
I couldn't dislike this any more at the moment. He murdered a personal song of Whitney's. As I've said since Boot Camp, this man cannot sing - he's a great belter, but he's not a great singer. 4/10

Lloyd
Lovely little performance; however the song was too big for him. He could've done more to encapsulate his vocal range, as the opening 30 seconds were great! 6/10

John & Edward
Words actually fail me on this one. My jaw dropped when they did the speaking. 5/10

Rikki
Something isn't clicking with this guy, and he annoys the crap out of me. He should never have been given a place in the final in the first place, over more superior talents such as Ethan & Duane. I loved the scream, hated the rest. 2/10

Jamie
Scratchy vocal tone did suit the song in the end, however I didn't really enjoy it. 7/10

Stacey
OMG her vocal was incredible! She proved tonight she is a talent to be reckoned with. I to think there is nothing fake about her. My favourite female contestant in the competition! 10/10

Was a bit lousy tonight overall - only three performers I'd actually say warranted their place in the final 12. My rankings, judging by my scores would be:

1. Joe
=. Stacey
2. Miss Frank
3. Olly
4. Lucie
5 Jamie
6. Rachel
7. Lloyd
8. John & Edward
9. Danyl
10. Rikki[/center:2cn616c0]

Poor Whitney has really become a ghost of her former self. Really sad to see what has happened as she had such an amazing stage presence... :(

I don't really see who will survive next week (IMO the talent this year is the weakest ever) and if Rachel ends up in the bottom two for the third consecutive week I don't think she'll survive.

Danyl - Feeling Good
Jamie - If I Can Dream
Olly - Bewitched
Lucie - My Funny Valentine
Rachel - Proud Mary
Stacey - When You Wish Upon A Star
Joe - Sway
Lloyd - Fly Me To The Moon
Miss Frank - That's Life
John and Edward - She Bangs

Wayne's thoughts...

NO Rachel! I'm sure they're trying to get rid of her intentionally! IF she can pull this off, then she'll be alright. But that song is SUCH a big ask. It IS Tina.

Joe should be interesting. I'm sure I'll be in ecstasy again! Danyl - just get out already. I can't wait until the week where he actually has to SING a song - this song is all about belting, which is all he's good for. Oh well, I'm sure Simon will give him another standing ovation, and I'm sure Dannii will feel obliged to kiss his ass after that 'incident'

Blossom

I HAAAAAAAAAAAATE Danyl so much - he's so full of himself and has got to go. Of course, he's popular with a lot of viewers so he'll probably end up staying a while longer.

I think the biggest problem with Rachel is that the audience hasn't really connected with her over the past couple of weeks. If she fails to do a great performance tonight, she'll be out.

No, you didn't sound argumentative. ;)

Danyl is really irritating. He definitely has this belief that he's the best person in the competition and it annoys me.

Whitney looked completely out of it after her performance. She was shuffling an awful lot and barely made any sense when she spoke. :(

As for who will be in the bottom 2 tomorrow night... my vote goes to Lloyd and Jamie.

Wayne
10-25-2009, 12:41 AM
Olly - Arrogant tit. I just don't like him. Having said that, there's no doubt it was a great performance.

Lloyd - If I could, I would  He is just so gorgeous. Added to which, he put on a great vocal this week - I'd say he was better than over half of the contestants! :) His eyes make you melt!

Miss Frank - OMG what a turn around. I liked them last week, I LOVED them this week. Truly one of the best bands in the show's history. They looked amazing, and sounded even better!

Rachel - She looked incredible tonight, and sounded fantastic. However, I think she cost herself with her behaviour after. WTF happened to her

Jamie - Can't stand him - I thought he had a great vocal, but nothing ever seems to change with him. He sounds the same each week. He also got off lightly by not singing a true big band song

Stacey - I thought she looked gorgeous. That dress was i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e. Ivana wants! I thought the vocal was brilliant (she struggled a bit on the bridge, but she hit & held notes as well as Leona could! A great performance

Danyl - Such a tool. I really cannot stand this guy. Once again, he proved that he cannot sing a song - he can just belt it. There is no melody to his voice - he can sing as well as me and that's pretty sh!t.

Joe - A great vocal, and a great overall performance. He can do any genre of music he wants, and pull it off effortlessly. He also looked HOT AS tonight. I loved the dancing too! :P

Lucie - This was a Leona 'Summertime' moment IMO. She sounded flawless & looked fantastic. Didn't warrant any criticisms

John & Edward -

John & Edward -

They left you speechless, huh?

I think the main reason Simon gave Lucie the negative comment was because he now sees her as a real threat to his own acts. She's got a great voice and last night's performance was her best so far.

I agree about Rachel's behaviour - there's already one Stacey in the competition and we don't need another.

I thought Joe was a bit off at the beginning but he got better as the song went on.

I still think it could be Lloyd and Jamie in the bottom 2 tonight. If one of them gets through then I pick Danyl to be in the bottom 2. The sooner he's out the better.

Mattias

I don't get the vibe from Danyl that he thinks he is the best in the competition. I see no evidence whatsoever. He is just a passionate performer who wants to win.

Blossom
10-25-2009, 10:27 AM
When I saw Danyl's performance last night I just said, "OMG! How big is his mouth?". His performance was bland whereas Muse's and Adam Lambert's versions of the song were far superior and neither belted the song out like Danyl did.

The biggest problem with him is that, like Jamie, he's over-confident in his performances and I don't really see him being that successful after the show has ended.

James
10-26-2009, 06:38 AM
Olly - He puts on a good performance and I do want to bear his children BUT his voice is very very weak.

Lloyd - YAWN. Pretty boy, nice tone to his voice but it's all a little 1 dimensional for me.

Miss Frank - I LOVE THEM. Although they haven't managed to pull off a great vocal since Boot Camp. I think they have the most potential to become a credible act after the show. Can't believe they want. Hate the british public.

Rachel - WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO HER????!!! She is now a karaoke singer, with boring hair, boring dress and predictable songs. The vocal. was good but nobody should ever do Proud Mary. It was big band week, why not give her somthing that matched her voice like Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James or Billie Holiday?? Stupid Dannii.

Jamie - Bleh, he is boring and his voice grates on me.

Stacey - Looked great, sounded bad. This was her worst performance. Could be down to how tight that corset was. How you suppose to sing with it that tight?

Danyl - His performance on Saturday was POOR. Why can't he sing an effin melody??? GRRRRRRRRRR And the massiveness of his mouth scares me.

Joe - Sway? really. I think he is lovely but this was awful. Not the right song and he was boring.

Lucie - A M A Z I N G. Flawless vocal. By far the best of the night AND the best of this year so far. Simon had no reason to critisize her AT ALL.

John & Edward - eh

News of the World: DANNII: Whit a load of rubbish
X-Factor judge criticises Whitney Houston's live performance

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00062/jcdani_280x450_62732a.jpg

CRITICAL: Judge Dannii Minogue 24/10/2009 DESPITE giving Whitney a standing ovation last week, judge Dannii Minogue thinks her performance was AWFUL. She admitted after the show: "The first Google alert I had the morning after was, 'Houston! We Have A Problem!"Dannii added: "It is beyond crazy. Her dress came undone and she was kind of tripping over it. And to be honest her voice just isn't what it was."
She then poked fun at Whitney's after-show interview with show host and our columnist Dermot O'Leary. Dannii, 38, laughed: "So Dermot says, 'You've been mentoring the 11 acts this week, how do you feel about that?'
"There was this huge pause and she looked down at her feet and she's kind of fumbling around.
"She's like, 'Ah, hang on, let me get this right, I don't want to muck this up here.' Then she just says, 'erm . . . young!'"
The previous week Robbie Williams was the star guest but struggled through his performance after a stage door wouldn't open.
Dannii, set to appear on Piers Morgan's Life Stories next month, said: "The thing is, all of the huge stars that come and perform on our show just freak out. I don't know why they do. But let's say it is Simon Cowell.
"It's definitely not me!"

WTF?????? I don't think I have seen Dannii muster up a single live vocal performance in the history of her career (ok career is a bit strong but you know).

How can someone with the vocal ability of a ant eater comment on Whitney's voice, especially publicly. Whitney wasn't there to be judged especially not by someone she has never even heard of. How about Dannii and Whitney have a sing off? Sounds like Miss Minogue thinks she is better than Whitters now.

Sorry Wayne I know you love her but COME ON! and when exactly was the last time Dannii had a hit? Bleh she's either very vile or just very stupid with all these comments that just seem to slip out.

I hope Simon ends her contract after this season...... rant over

Wayne
10-26-2009, 07:28 AM
LOL I think she had every right to criticise Whitney! So what, she can't have an opinion, just because she's a judge? Yet Simon Cowell did a similar thing last year with Cheryl Cole when Girls Aloud performed The Promise...

In all fairness, Dannii would probably blow Miss Houston out of the water vocally now anyway ;) haha. What Dannii said is completely right - Whitney's voice isn't what it was. Her performance last week was THE MESS of the century. I'm just glad there is one judge willing to speak their mind and display some backbone.

James
10-26-2009, 07:40 AM
In all fairness, Dannii would probably blow Miss Houston out of the water vocally now anyway ;)

Wayney? What you said right there is just silly. Dannii couldn't blow my new rowing machine out of the water vocally.

She has a right to an opinion but taking it public is nothing more than whoring yourself for press attention. If she was a trained singer with a 5 octave range and the most beautiful tone in the world then she would be able to give an informed opinion on Whitney's or (anybody's) singing. But I still wouldn't agree with a public bashing.

The fact is nobody has the right to slam someone to the press, if it was anyone else you would think it was tacky..... which it is.

The fact is the novelty has worn off with Dannii, we all know it's all about Cheryl now. Dannii wouldn't have to resort to these controversial remarks if she was still getting attention.

There is distinct lack of class when you have feel the need to slam somebody!

Wayne
10-26-2009, 07:54 AM
Well that defeats the object of having a press/tabloid society. The gentleman that writes for the Sun's gossip column stated on Xtra Factor last night that you can't always have it well with the press - you take the good with the bad.

As a famous female, Dannii is bound to be interviewed about such things. She shouldn't have to restrict her opinion, whether public or not. Its her job to judge the contestants, and if she wants to pass an opinion on the star guests, so be it.

Simon Cowell does it every week - he made numerous digs at Cheryl following her X Factor perf. with Girls Aloud, and live on air! Based on your criteria, he shouldn't be allowed to since he too "couldn't blow 'your' new rowing machine out of the water". Whether she is a good singer or a bad singer in your mind, she still has the right to an opinion ;)

Whitney shouldn't have come on stage, high as a kite, split the dress and quite frankly made herself look a fool. This is coming from somebody who thought her vocal was actually good - her performance was the bad thing, and that dragged her down.

EDIT: OMG this sounds so preachy! Sowwie <3

James
10-26-2009, 08:27 AM
it does sound preachy but your forgiven LOL

I think the fact is that you do have to restrict yourself when your in the public eye. And this is about the 8th aritcle in the space of 10 days about Dannii's remarks. She is basically committing public suicide. I can't figure out why she won't just shut up.... it's stupidity.

Cheryl chooses not to pass judgement (unless she is actually judging contestants) and the whole of the country is in love with her.

If Whitney commented on Dannii's performances in the way Dannii has about hers Whitney would be called a bitch...... and it is bitchy.

Also the fact she gave her a standing O and posed for pictures with her then went and slammed the performance doesn't help her public persona considering she already comes across a little fake and cold.

X Factor producers reportedly held crisis talks last night after being left stunned by the result of the viewer vote.

Girl band Miss Frank were eliminated from the competition yesterday after finding themselves in the bottom two with hotly-tipped singer Danyl Johnson. Simon Cowell immediately described Johnson's setback as "a joke".

According to The Sun, show chiefs are now keen to ensure that "the best acts" do not end up in the sing-off again.

A source said: "They need to work out whether they've given the acts the best songs."

Cowell's protégé Johnson was also said to have been surprised by his narrow escape, though he later told The Xtra Factor that he had expected to do badly.

The insider added: "He looked like a broken man when he came off stage - absolutely destroyed. He was stunned to be in the bottom two, he thought he was the best thing on the show."

so if you go off what they are saying then there is a degree of "fixing" done. They held an emergency meeting because Danyl was in the bottom??? So if someone else was in the bottom 2 they wouldn't care?

Saying they have to ensure that who they think are the better acts get the best songs........ well isn't that fixing it?

It's giving the people they choose to be the "better acts" an advantage. Unfair in my opinion. The fact is it's up to the public and the public obviously don't like Danyl.

I think Louis knows by now that he hasn't a chance of winning. Miss Frank should never have been in the bottom 2 as their performance on Saturday night was really good.

Hopefully, Danyl's smugness has eased after being in the bottom 2 last night. While his vocals in the 'survival song' were good his stage presence is still seriously over-the-top.

I really hope he goes asap.

X Factor contestant Danyl Johnson has reportedly upset Stacey Solomon.

Solomon was left in tears when the teacher made a comment about her family, The People claims.

"Everyone's tired and stressed and despite all the smiles for the cameras, there's been a lot of sniping and bickering," a source said. "But no-one expected Danyl to be quite so nasty, especially to Stacey - she wouldn't hurt a fly.

"It blew up out of nothing. Danyl and Stacey were having a disagreement when he blurted out a really vicious comment. It was directed at something very close to Stacey and her family's heart and was not something you'd expect anyone in this day and age to say.

"Danyl needs to be careful - and he needs to apologise."

An X Factor spokesperson said: "There was a minor tiff between Danyl and Stacey but everything is alright now."

Johnson has previously been described as a "bully" by judge Louis Walsh, while former contestants Kandy Rain branded him "fake" and "arrogant".

Dublin twins John and Edward Grimes topped The X Factor public vote last weekend, according to newspaper reports. Yes, you did just read that correctly.

The duo, who have been slated by the show's judges for their lack of singing ability, proved a hit with viewers after their performance of the Ricky Martin hit She Bangs.

Their success meant that Danyl Johnson and Miss Frank, who were both praised by the judges, found themselves in the bottom two.

An X Factor insider told The Sun: "It is extraordinary. John and Edward were miles ahead of any other act. Whoever wins the X Factor, you can usually guarantee they can sing.

"If John and Edward win, it will no longer be a show about great singers - it could be disastrous. But you know what? It could happen."

So, is The X Factor no longer a singing contest and is it in danger of losing all credibility?

The answer to that is that it never really has been a singing contest - especially not in the early stages of the live shows.

Saturday nights on The X Factor are all about entertainment and at the moment the twins are the most entertaining act on the show. Who can honestly say that they don't look forward to seeing what they are going to perform?

Another factor for their success is likely to be that voting tends to be quite low during the initial stages, with most fans waiting until the last few weeks before picking up the phone. This would explain the massive success of Eoghan Quigg during the first weeks of the show last year, but ultimately he had to settle for third place in the final behind the much more talented Alexandra Burke and JLS.

If the twins manage to buck this trend and keep on piling in the votes right up to the show's final then the programme will have a problem. John and Edward may have a career ahead of them as TV presenters (Irish Ant and Dec anyone?) but singers they are clearly not. If they stay in until the later stages, will we see a situation similar to John Sergeant on last year's Strictly, where they voluntarily pull out to save what credibility the show has left?

What do you think of the twins' success in the show? Is it turning it into a farce? Maybe you are one of the viewers who is voting for them? Let us know...

OMG LOL!

ALSO there is a website (which I seen a poster for but can't remember the name of) that you go on and it gives you a code so you can call and vote for free.

I would not be surprised if they managed to survive until the finals. Rememeber what happened with Eoghan Quigg last year? He came top of the voting 7 out of the 10 weeks, I think.

J&E should just win the show to prove that it's definitely past it's peak.

TERRIBLE twins John and Edward are NOT the viewers’ favourites to win, despite reports claiming the brothers are ahead in the public poll.

In fact, on Sunday the gruesome twosome only escaped the bottom two by a tiny 0.5% of the votes.

And the 18-year-olds have never been out of the bottom four since the X Factor public votes began.

Last week’s vote winner was actually talented teenager Rachel Adedeji, senior show sources confirmed. Danyl Johnson, 27, and Lloyd Daniels, 16, came out on top in previous weeks.

The news is a devastating blow to Jedward fans. It means they will need a top performance to avoid the sing-off, which would mean certain elimination.

Because Simon Cowell, 50, Dannii Minogue, 38, and Cheryl Cole, 26, have all made clear their dislike for the twins. A show source said: “This is going to blow the whole competition wide open now.

“People were actually starting to believe that the twins were going to win.

“But now it seems their days are well and truly numbered. They could even be out this week.

“And Rachel, who no-one fancies, has been piling up the votes this last week.”

Bookies were forced to slash their odds on John and Edward to win from 150-1 to 12-1 after dodgy reports on Monday claimed that they were on top. Even Simon has been sweating over the prospect, saying: “If they win it will be the biggest disaster in X Factor history.”

But yesterday our well-placed source on the hit ITV1 show came forward to expose the truth. The insider revealed that even though everyone is talking about the twins, hardly anyone is actually voting for them. The news will be a shock to their mentor Louis Walsh, 57, who insisted that they still stood a chance of winning after he was left with no other acts in the competition.

But it is Rachel, 18, who is pulling in the votes, despite falling into the bottom two in the first live shows. Simon even blasted her for being “invisible”, saying: “Her personality is an issue. I know nothing about her.” Yet the young lass won praise from guest mentors Robbie Williams, 35, Michael Bublé, 34, and even Whitney Houston, 46. And after two weeks of attacks, TV viewers rallied to dial up and support her. Last night X Factor bosses said they could not comment on the voting figures.

THE X Factor grand final could bring in a £20million advertising pay day for cash-strapped ITV. It is expected that the show, on Saturday December 12, will attract 20million viewers and that means huge ad revenue for ITV, which had been forced to cut costs during the credit crunch.

X Factor twins John and Edward Grimes may be too sick to perform
Source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/200 ... -21786128/ (http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2009/10/30/x-factor-twins-john-and-edward-grimes-may-be-too-sick-to-perform-115875-21786128/)

Simon Cowell’s prayers could be answered – terrible twins John and Edward have been SILENCED by raging sore throats.

Tone-deaf brothers John and Edward – the surprise favourites to win the show – made an emergency dash to an exclusive Harley Street clinic yesterday after feeling poorly.

An X Factor insider joked: “It’s a sign from above – viewers may be granted a reprieve from their terrible singing.”

Simon, 50, has said he will be on “the fastest plane out of the UK” if the twins scoop the top spot.

The 17-year-old Dubliners started feeling under the weather earlier this week and are concerned their voices may not be up to performing on the show.

Doctors have ruled out swine flu, but the duo has been ordered not to talk, rest and drink plenty of fluids.

The set insider went on: “The boys have been struck down by the curse of X Factor.

“There are lots of sniffles around at the moment and coupled with the pressure their voices are under, it’s no surprise they have got sore throats.

“They have been told to take it easy so that it what they are doing. The boys will be desperate to perform and everyone is hopeful they will be well enough to do so.”

The shock news that they may be too unwell to perform on stage will be a massive blow to their army of fans – as it has emerged that the Grimes brothers get the most FAN MAIL out of all of the acts.

An X Factor source revealed: “They are getting sackloads of the stuff every day.

“The only act who is getting anywhere near them is Lloyd Daniels but the boys are winning hands down.”

Last week they also scooped the most public phone votes.

Meanwhile, Cow-ell will publicly defend Danyl Johnson tonight after he was branded the house bully.

The X Factor guru is determined to avoid a repeat of last week’s shock result when former hot-favourite Danyl, 27, was forced to sing for survival.

Simon is expected to explain to viewers that he does not believe the teacher has been picking on the other contestants.

A source said: “Simon was livid when Danyl ended up in the bottom two and thought it was grossly unfair. He believes it’s because of the negative comments he has been getting and wants to tell the public how he sees it.”

Danyl, from Reading, has been accused of picking on single mum Stacey Solomon, 19, by calling her a bad mum for leaving 18-month-old son Zach at home.

JOE - Abso-bloody-lutely superb! I'm a HUGE Joe fan - this was his BEST performance so far IMO. The vocals were outstanding - I truly believe him to be the best male contestant since Shayne Ward. My favourite performance of the night and IMO the best performance of the night!

LUCIE - She should've excelled on the bigger notes more! I think many people were expecting more from her tonight - she could be vulnerable - I hope not

DANYL - TERRIBLE. Just absolutely horrible.

LLOYD - Performance wise, it was a mess. The girls pawning him - no Cheryl. Vocally, it was miles better than previous weeks, which granted isn't saying a whole lot, but I do really like him

STACEY - She sounded great! Fabulous song choice, and although there were a few iffy parts, she pulled it together by the end, and it was just lovely to watch her move! :P

JAMIE - He's blegh to me. I hate how he raises his arms all the time - makes him come across as a grandad trying to be hip. Okay performance - should've been much better

RACHEL -She NAILED it. Whoa at that big note. She's very reminiscent of Mary J in this!

JOHN & EDWARD - Hated it. Just car crash

OLLY - Really don't see the fuss with this guy. I find him totally un-entertaining as well as unlikeable. His performance was okay though, Certainly not the best

Overall, tonight was a very enjoyable show! The usual stars shined, and it was nice to see Rachel put herself right back into the competition - could she be this year's Ruth? :o

I am raging with the British public LOL.

OMG Rachel was amazing this weekend.

How come Danyl wasn't in the bottom 2? He sang the whole first 2 thirds of the song out of tune!!!!! How can Simon defend that? Nobody else would get away with it. And Simon keeps saying he is the best singer in the competiton...... such an amazing singer he can't sing the easy part of a song in tune? He is a showboat, he can do the big notes but can't actually sing. Technically Rachel and Lucy are far superior to him vocally.

I wish Lucy would open her voice up a bit more, just like Whitney told her. She has the notes in there but she is wimping out by going up in to head voice but she she be belting in chest or at least doing a chest/head mix.

Stacey was amazing, I think this week Dannii has finally figured out what music she should be giving her girls. Which is why I am baffled with Rachel. This was by far the best choice of song she has had, the other have been a mess. OK the styling was COMPLETELY off but thats not what they are judging.

oh and the twins, were 1 bare ahead for a whole verse and started singing (if you call it that) the chorus too early and still get through when real singers are going home. I actually quite enjoy watching them for a laugh but the novelty has worn off.

and o my god.... my baby....... the gawjus..... sexy..... beautiful....... OLLIE. I just love him with all my big gay heart. I think he may win :p

I don't have a favourite as this series line up has been the weakest I've ever seen. All the best contestants got dumped at judges houses (although Dannii made good choices).
Mind boggling that Simon didn't put through Nicole or Treyc.
Cheryl put through three painfully bland similiar pretty young boys - one would've been enough (Joe obviously),and she should've added the black guy and the opera guy,for a bit of variety, and then she'd have been represented by three males that could all sing and bring very different voices to the show.

I'm still watching it,but it's weird when I'm not enthusiastic about one of them. Not one !!
I don't care who wins.

I'm not a Rachel fan,but I thought Rachels song, and her sing off performance, were the two best performances of the live shows so far.
The point of the sing off is to save the person that just sung the best. That was Rachel.I know this, because I have ears.lol

Lloyd doesn't have the worst voice in the world. He can manage a line here and there,in tune, and sounds pretty decent - but he's not able to carry a whole song.Suitable for a boyband, but should never have made it to the live shows as a solo singer.

The show works better with an odd number of judges.

http://www.blogcdn.com/insidetv.aol.com/media/2009/11/jedwardhalloween250.jpg

Now this news will either fill you with joy or with despair, depending on your attitude to the tuneless twins from Dublin.

It has emerged that dynamic duo John and Edward Grimes are rehearsing Ray Parker Jr's 1984 hit Ghostbusters - to perform for this Saturday's 'songs from the movies' theme on The X Factor.

The pair sung Queen's We Will Rock You while dressed like vampires for rock week last weekend, and appear to be extending Halloween for an extra week.

It is even reported that they are going to dress in the jumpsuits and backpacks worn by Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray in the film of the same name.

A poll on AOL yesterday asked whether the twins should 'do a John Sergeant' and quit the show - and out of more than 114,000 voters a massive 84% wanted to see the 18-year-olds quit.

Dannii Minogue is reported to be hopping mad after her move to the end of the panel of X Factor judges was made permanent this week.

The pop star-turned-reality judge was allegedly given just a few minutes notice that she was being swapped with Louis Walsh - so that she was at the opposite end of the panel from Simon Cowell.

And the Daily Mail claims that despite her making her unhappiness known to show bosses, 38-year-old Dannii is now expected to stay in the same spot for the rest of the series.

The Mail quoted a source as saying: "The situation is that the producers like the banter between Simon and Louis and wanted to move Louis up the panel. He livens things up, whereas having Cheryl and Dannii sitting together was getting a bit dull.

"But they also felt that Dannii and Simon give the most constructive comments on the show, so they would make good bookends, so Dannii is also somewhat a victim of her own success."

There is no suggestion that the move is a punishment for her comments about Simon's act Danyl Johnson's sexual preference a few weeks ago.

Dannii recently told how she posed nude for Playboy (http://o.aolcdn.com/art/gat/eleven/1/1/playboy.html) in the mid-90s to pay off her bills, and we've done a round-up of other stars who have also bared all for the title...

Jamie Archer threatens to quit 'X Factor'?

Rex Features

Jamie Archer has reportedly been considering his future on The X Factor due to his worsening relationship with Simon Cowell.

Archer, 34, threatened to quit after he was banned from going on tour with Bon Jovi because he is contracted to the ITV show, reports The Sun.

A friend of the contestant claimed that he is also fed up with how he is being treated by his mentor Cowell.

"He was on the verge of quitting at the weekend because he was so angry at being given rubbish songs and some judges' comments. He hasn't forgiven Simon for changing his song," they stated.

"Their relationship is not great. There were already serious cracks but now it's more like the Grand Canyon. Jon Bon Jovi came up to him after the Sunday show, told him he liked him and offered him a support act role on the tour.

"Jamie was thrilled but his contract means he is tied to X Factor and wouldn't be able to do it. He was absolutely gutted and it made for a tense week between him and Simon."

A virus has meant that Archer has been rehearsing with a "croaky" voice for this evening's performance and will apparently be singing a song which is "out of his comfort zone".

The X Factor continues tonight at 8pm on ITV1.

Yet again, Simon changes the song for Jamie. That's really unfair for the other contestants and shouldn't be allowed but seeing as it's his show he thinks he can do what he pleases. It's really annoying now...

IMO Lloyd and Jamie should be in the bottom 2 tomorrow night for the following reasons:

1) Lloyd's performance was really off-key and again Sean Kingston's song was added in, which has nothing to do with the film 'Stand By Me'.

2) Jamie's performance was exactly the same as his Christina Aguilera one - only the song was different.

Overall, it was a poor show tonight.

Joe - Circle of Life
WHAT A VOCAL. Completely agree with Dannii that he's the best male vocalist in the competition (I actually think of him as the best overall singer here). He effortlessly guides his voice from the dulcet lower register to that soaring upper register and into the belting range! OUTSTANDING performance tonight. As with Leona, I think his supposed lack of confidence (which I don't comprehend btw - I think he looks confident enough up there) will serve him well in this competition. Regarding Louis' comment, it was movie week. And its really hard to turn a song that was designed for musical theater into a pure pop song, which is what cheesy Louis wanted. Just piss off Louis with your mind games!!

Danyl - Purple Rain
New haircut = awful. However, he delivered a good vocal. I was SO glad that there was much less shouting. But as a result, I kind of felt that the performance was a little crap. Poor lad can't win can he! NOTHING on Ruth's version though & I still really dislike him.

Lucie - This Is Me
Hmm. Not sure what to make of this. Not something I'll ever choose to go back and listen too out of choice. Just 'okay' for me. I do think she's lost now - as in she isn't standing out like the others (probably because of all the Danyl/Jedward hype)

Jamie - Crying
I LOVED the start, The soft parts of the song were awesome and I genuinely did get goosebumps. Crying is one of my favourite songso of all-time anyway, and although this didn't come close to Roy 'The Voice' Orbison's version, it was more than competent! However, I think he could be vulnerable tonight

Lloyd - Stand By Me/Beautiful Girls
Just fantastic! I disagreed with everything Louis said - this performance was great! Maybe in the context of the others in this competition, he is out of his depth, but putting that aside and now allowing it to cloud your judgement, I think this was a more than adequate performance that should by rights reserve his place in the competition!

Stacey - Son Of A Preacher Man
Sexy? Maybe. Vocals? Good! Definitely not her best week, but she easily places in the top 4 of this week, once again. Consistence is the key with this girl at the moment - she still hasn't delivered that knock out performance IMO that convinces people of her star quality

Olly - Twist and Shout
Just so samey. It really annoyed me how Simon gave this a standing ovation. Back during Leona's series, not even she got a standing ovation for every performance. Ruth didn't get one for Purple Rain/Knocking On Heaven's Door, Brenda didn't get one for Without You....yet boring old Olly gets one for one of the most old fashioned songs ever. This song couldn't be brought up-to-date no matter how hard you tried. Awful.

John & Edward - Ghostbusters
HILARIOUS! I really enjoyed this performance!! My favourite of theirs so far! However it irks me that good singers are going to go (have gone - Miss Frank, Rachel) at the expense of these guys putting on a (enjoyable!) trainwreck

I think it's pretty clear what is happening now - all of Simon's acts are getting through and the real competition is being eliminated to pave the way for one of them to win.

The show has really sunk to a new low and ought to be cancelled.

LOL! My friend has just said the exact same thing about the show being cancelled!

Its a disgrace that Lucie went, I must say. But at the same time, as Neil said, it was a public vote! And I kind of wanted to see what John And Edward were going to do. I think im slowly becoming a Jedward-aniac!

The Christmas charts are all about novelty acts so even though I don't see Jedward surviving in the music world for, say, 20 years, they would fit in that chart perfectly.

I warmed to them after their Britney performance and I don't love them just because they're fellow Dubliners - it's because they know how to put on a good performance, which is what people need sometimes.

Simon Cowell consulted The X Factor's executive producer Richard Holloway before making his controversial decision to vote against Lucie Jones, a report has claimed.

According to The Sun, Cowell and Holloway were seen "in deep discussions" during an advert break following the announcement that Jones would compete against twins John & Edward in last night's sing-off.
A source said: "[Cowell and Holloway] seemed to be discussing what to do. Should they get rid of Lucie, who can obviously sing really well, or finally get rid of the twins?"

Jones was later eliminated after Cowell took the judges' verdict to deadlock for the second week running. John & Edward were saved because they had polled higher than their rival in the earlier viewer vote.

The insider added: "The producers always claim that Simon doesn't know how the voting goes before he makes his decision. But after the intense conversation with Simon, Holloway was seen whispering in the ears of judges Dannii [Minogue], Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh."

Cowell insisted that he had been surprised by the outcome while speaking on The Xtra Factor last night. He also claimed that Jones's axing was not his fault.

Dannii Minogue reportedly stood up to Simon Cowell by moving back to her old seat on The X Factor without his permission.

According to The Mirror, the Australian singer informed her boss that she was returning to her old place "whether he liked it or not" shortly before Saturday's show went on air.

Claiming that producers were then forced to change camera angles and scripts, a source said: "It caused a real headache. She only told them about ten minutes before she was due to go on - just like they didn't give her any notice last week.

"Dannii is not afraid of Simon and was prepared to stand up for herself."

Minogue was ordered to swap positions with Louis Walsh on the panel before the October 31 live instalment. The shake-up sparked various different rumours about why the change had been made.

Leona speaks out against the show with pantomime criticism:

Leona Lewis has claimed that this year's X Factor is "all pantomime".

The singer told The Daily Telegraph that the show had changed since she won the contest in 2007.

Lewis said: "It's all pantomime, of course. I do feel that when I did it, it was more about the music.

"Now it's a whole production - so many people on stage, dancing, special effects going off, all that craziness. It's definitely changed emphasis."

Of twins John & Edward, she added: "If people don't like them, they shouldn't vote for them. What are they going to do if they win?"

Judge Dannii Minogue has said that the programme "turned a corner" in Lewis's year and has expressed concerns about its continued validity were John & Edward to win.

THE JUDGES:

Dannii looked SENSATIONAL....Cheryl looked sub-par....Simon's justification for taking it to public vote last week was quite frankly a bag of wank!! Louis just pisses me off now

Jamie Archer - the atmosphere was inspirational! Incredible!! The emotion was amazing! The vocals were good (but could've been so much better IMO). I think this must've been my favourite performance of his so far. He looked so hot too :P LMFAO @ Louis' comment - it was hilarious! :D

EDIT: He let himself down with his 'acceptance speech'. Just shut up Jamie lol And then he did that bloody thing with his ARM!!!!!!!

Lloyd - wow. Wasn't expecting this.

Olly - song swallowed him : agree completely. Very overrated

Joe - OMFG. All I can say is my favourite performance across the competition so far, and he really is technically, the best singer in the competition. Just outstandingly good

Jedward - really enjoyed it LMAO. They looked well cute LOL. I wish the audience wouldn't boo - its so unfair.

Stacey - I was literally writing this down as it was being broadcast, and I've not bothered changing anything. Therefore, my comment on Joe's above perf. being the best so far could be rendered a tad premature. I think Stacey's perf. here was at least AS GOOD as Joe's. She put such an incredible amount of emotion into it, and this could be the turning point for her, much like it was for Leona a few weeks in during her year. Stacey is back in the race. I think this could've been an acceptance speech, and deserved a standing ovation from all 4 judges

Danyl - not watched & don't intend to

GREAT night

My FINAL pick for the bottom two:

Jamie & Jedward!

Wayne
11-15-2009, 12:00 PM
JEDWARD AND THEIR PORN!

They might appear all polished and professional on the live show, but back at the X Factor house it appears the contestants are running wild.

So wild in fact, that boss Simon Cowell has had to step in before chaos ensues.

According to the News of the World, a team of psychologists and experts have been called to the house before any SuBo-style meltdowns occur.

Despite the 'no-relationship' rule, Olly and Stacey are rumoured to be openly cosying up and cheeky pop twins Jedward were reportedly caught giggling over internet porn before a singing lesson.

So up steps Simon. This time he has personally given the contestants what for, even calling in their families to try and talk sense into them.

An insider told the paper: "Simon knows he has a duty of care to these youngsters and is determined to stamp the problems out NOW."

As the pressure mounts, tensions are reportedly high in the house with petty differences blown out of proportion.

Simon is apparently even considering a live-in matron to keep the housemates under control.

A source told the New of the World: "Until now there have been no staff in the house whose duty is to monitor the behaviour. It's like an out of control boarding school.

"Sure, they have security outside to keep fans at bay. But no one to ask for personal advice and support. It's like the Big Brother house without cameras.

"The team believe appointing a matron would curb misbehaviour, stop late-night antics and instil some discipline."

If he could manage to rustle up some more talent, even better.

It was good to actually hear people cheering for Jedward after their performance. I definitely think it was their best performance so far and I really want their suits and shoes. *lol*

After the reception they received, I will be stunned if they're in the bottom 2 again. Jamie and Olly should actually be there as they were by far the weakest, with Jamie to go. It's about time one of Simon's acts left the competition.

He was nothing really special (as always). I don't get what's so great about him - yeah, he has a good voice but he always over-performs and it's like, "So what?" I really wish he wouldn't open his mouth as wide as that when he sings...

Archer: 'I could be one of the greats'
Monday, November 16 2009, 18:50 GMT

By Alex Fletcher, Reality TV Editor

ITV
X Factor star Jamie Archer has claimed that he could be "one of the great entertainers in this country".

The 34-year-old singer, who was voted off the ITV1 show on Saturday, said that he isn't bothered by judge Louis Walsh's jibes about his talent.

"I'm not a pub rocker and I wouldn't have gone on the show if I thought I was. I genuinely think that with the right support and record company backing, I have a really good shot at fulfilling my dreams and becoming one of the the great entertainers in this country," he told DS.

"My goal has always been to fill out stadiums and things like that. I truly believe in my heart of hearts that I can do that, if the public are behind me."

Speaking about Walsh's criticism that he was just a glorified "pub rocker", he stated: "At the end of the day, Louis is the man behind Boyzone and Westlife. If it was one of my rock heroes in that chair, then I would have taken it on board. But it's Louis Walsh! I'm not really bothered about what he has to say."

Archer also denied rumours that he threatened to walk off the show earlier this month.

"I was never going to leave. I wouldn't ever do that," he added. "That would be a really weak and silly thing to do. 'Oh, I'm not getting my way, so I'm going home'. You get on with it, deal with it as you can, and be a man about it."

The unprecedented impact that The X Factor is having on fourth-quarter sales is poised to continue until the end of the year, as the likes of Susan Boyle and Rihanna take their turns as guests on the ratings-topping show.

The ITV1 programme’s weekly influence on the shape of the UK singles and albums charts was felt again yesterday (Sunday) as the previous week’s guest performers Black Eyed Peas and Leona Lewis were expected to claim the top two singles sellers with Meet Me Halfway and Happy respectively, while earlier guests Robbie Williams and JLS were battling it out for top-two superiority on the albums countdown.

Last week’s results show featuring Lewis and Black Eyed Peas delivered The X Factor its highest audience yet, peaking at 16.6m and a 54.4% share, with the record viewing figures further emphasising how the programme is able to influence music sales in a way no other promotional outlet can come close to emulating.

“In an age when there are very few truly mass-audience platforms left, The X Factor has become pivotal for those labels and artists seeking to reach the family-based audience that can be so important to album sales in the run-up to Christmas, when nearly half of all music purchasing takes place,” says HMV head of music Rudy Osorio.

“The series has not only become a conveyor belt of new, mainstream pop talent, such as Leona, Alexandra Burke and JLS, but it clearly now acts as a major showcase for many of the key releases by other artists as well.”

Shakira, who was due to perform her new single Did It Again on yesterday’s results show, is next in line to benefit from exposure on the show (it doesn't seem to be working just yet - the single is outside the Top 20 on today's midweeks - irishguy28), while The X Factor’s effect on the singles market will be felt again on this coming Sunday’s new chart following the release this week of the 2009 finalists’ charity single, a cover of the Michael Jackson hit You Are Not Alone.

If You Are Not Alone does top the chart this Sunday it will be the fifth number one in a row to benefit directly from The X Factor, a pattern that began with the first results show broadcast on October 11 when both Robbie Williams and last year’s winner Alexandra Burke performed.

“This is a music-based phenomenon and we as a business should be celebrating it,” says Epic managing director Nick Raphael whose acts include JLS.

“X Factor is without doubt the best music show on TV, the best entertainment show and the highest-rated TV show of modern times,” he adds. “The booking policy of the show is extremely thorough. Their booking policy is global superstars, acts that are associated with the show and those that are established in the UK. As there are only two slots each week they have to make a big impact.”

Although star guests appearing on the first four seasons of The X Factor all experienced notable sales gains, the impact of this fifth season on the fourth-quarter market has been significantly greater as more and more viewers have tuned in.

Polydor president Ferdy Unger-Hamilton, whose artist Cheryl Cole topped the singles and then the albums charts after her X Factor performance, says the industry needs big TV shows to drive sales above and beyond what can be achieved at radio, noting, “Any TV show that gives you an audience of 14m or 16m is fantastic.”

Others now set to capitalise during the remainder of the season will include Susan Boyle, who will perform Wild Horses on next Sunday’s live final, a day ahead of the release of her debut album I Dreamed A Dream, and Rihanna whose new album Rated R is also out next Monday.

Meanwhile, the debut offering by this year’s X Factor winner remains the firm favourite to top the Christmas-week singles chart, which would make it the fifth year in a row the show’s victor has topped the festive countdown.

Jedward (http://channelhopping.onthebox.com/2009/11/17/x-factor-jedward-parents-very-worried-says-walsh/) seem set to stay in X Factor for yet another week after it was revealed that the theme for this weekend’s show would be Wham!

According to reports, Simon Cowell rejected an Elton John night in favour of tunes from the 1980s duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

We imagine that John & Edward (http://channelhopping.onthebox.com/2009/11/17/x-factor-jedward-parents-very-worried-says-walsh/) might have struggled to perform Elton’s hits but should be more comfortable with the Wham Rap!

Call us cynical, but we think this is all part of his devious scheme to keep the tuneless two-some in the competition – although for what reason still seems unclear.
Ratings aside, he’s got to manage the winners…

Sources have also indicated that singers will be able to take on some of George Michael’s sole hits such as Club Tropicana and Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.
