Tinie Tempah's 2 week reign at the top has ended. The UK has a new chart topper, and it's a truly remarkable chart climber. Lady Gaga and Beyonce's 'Telephone' first arrived in the UK Top 40 in early December 2009, between then and March 7th it spent 7 weeks in the top 40 without climbing any higher than number 30; last week that all changed when the track took a random 19 place leap up to number 12 and this week it has shot up 11 places to become Lady Gaga's 4th UK number 1. Most had undoubtedly written 'Telephone' off as a minor hit, but perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised by such chart movement if we consider her chart history; all of her hits (except Wale's number 12 hit 'Chillin' which she featured on last September) climbed to their peaks:

'Just dance' debuted at 3 in January 2009 and moved up 1 place the following week to the top

'Poker face' arrived at number 30 in late January 2009 and climbed for 9 weeks before hitting the number 1 spot

'Paparazzi' debuted at 13 in June 2009 and climbed twice before peaking at number 4

'Lovegame' entered at 33 in late August 2009 and peaked at 19 5 weeks later

'Bad romance' debuted at 14 in early November 2009, took 6 weeks to climb to number 1 and then returned to the top 3 weeks later.

It seems Gaga songs 'grow on you'!

A jump from 12 to 1 may seem trivial these days when you consider the chart leaps some hits have taken in the past few years, but often it involves cheating; the last leap to the top was Peter Kay's Children in Need medley last December, but as the track was released mid-week it didn't get most of its sales until week 2. In the case of Gaga's track, it has been widely available to download for over 3 months and such a long journey to the top is a huge achievement and, as if an 11 place climb to the top wasn't enough, 'Bad romance' has also climbed back up 3 places at 21, now on its 21st week inside the top 40.

The track is also Beyonce's 5th number 1 outside of Destiny's Child; the last being 'If I were a boy' in November 2008.

It looks as though it wasn't to be for Rihanna's 'Rude boy'; it's down a place at 3 after a fortnight in 2nd place, now the 6th Rihanna hit to peak at at 2, the others being 'Pon de replay' (2005), 'S.O.S' (2006), 'Unfaithful' (2006), 'Live your life' (2008) and 'Russian Roulette' (2009). 'Rude boy' has spent 8 weeks inside the top 40 however, 6 of which have been inside the top 10.

Last weeks highest new entry has dipped on its 2nd charting week; Justin Bieber and Ludacris' 'Baby' is down a place at number 4.

After 3 consecutive weeks of occupying the number 4 position, Ellie Goulding's 'Starry eyed' has finally moved, sadly in the wrong direction, down a place at 5.

Cheryl Cole's 'Parachute' has crept up the top 10 yet again, this week up 2 places to a new peak of number 6. The track has now been inside the top 40 for 6 weeks and has continuously climbed every week since it arrived at number 26 in early February. Cheryl Cole can also boast another hit in this weeks chart; 'Fight for this love', her 1st and only solo number 1 hit to date has re-entered the chart at number 40, it's in fact the 2nd time the song has returned; it originally spent 15 weeks in the chart beginning at the end of October last year, it returned to the chart for a fortnight last month and got as high as 36, this week it clocks up its 18th week in the top 40 and its 22nd in the top 60.

This weeks highest new entry belongs to Romanian dance star Inna. The track 'Hot' has entered at number 8 giving Inna her UK top 40 debut. The track has already hit number 1 in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Russia, Lebanon, Malta, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Hungary, Greece and Ukraine. Can she add the UK to that list? Watch this space...

2 big climbers are just missing out on the top 10 this week; Black Eyed Peas 'Rock that body', is up a further 4 places to a new peak of number 11 on its 3rd charting week, now looking very likely to go on to be their 12th top 10 hit. Just below at is Young Money and Lloyd's 'Bedrock'; the track's been crawling up the chart for 8 weeks and looked as though it may have peaked after being stuck at number 18 for the past fortnight, but it's up 6 places this week to a new peak of number 12, possibly also now with top 10 potential.

Moving down the chart this week after only a week inside the top 10 is McLean's 'My name', down 3 at 13 and Gabriella Cilmi's 'On a mission', down 8 at 17.

Several hits are making chart u-turns this week, JLS' 'One shot' has climbed back up a place at 20 on its 10th charting week, as mentioned above, Lady Gaga's 'Bad romance' is up 3 at 21, Glee Cast's 'Don't stop believing' is back up 3 at 25 on its 10th charting week, Journey's version of 'Don't stop believing' is also back up 3 at 28 on its 17th (non-consecutive) charting week, Iyaz' former chart topper 'Replay' is back up 2 at 30 on its 11th charting week and Jay Z and Alicia Key's 'Empire state of mind' is back up 5 at 31 on its 27th charting week.

Pixie Lott's 'Gravity' has crept up to a new peak, this week up 3 at 23, now having climbed every week since its number 35 debut 4 weeks ago; it is however still yet to become her 4th top 20 hit.

Just below at 26 is this weeks second-highest new entry; 'Bad boy' by UK born grime and hip-hop artist Skepta. It's Skepta's first week ever inside the UK top 40, his only previous chart success being 'Sunglasses at night' which only peaked at number 64 almost a year ago.

The final new entry of the week is a 7th UK top 40 hit by the cast of Glee; 'True colors', a Cyndi Lauper hit that originally peaked at number 12 in 1986. The new version has debuted at 35.

Mumford and sons' 'The cave' is continuing to struggle, this week spending its 3rd consecutive week at number 37; it is in fact not the only hit spending its 3rd consecutive week in the same position, Chiddy Bang's 'Opposite of adults' is currently spending a 3rd consecutive week at number 16. Also not budging this week are both of Ke$ha's hits; 'Blah blah blah' is stuck at 22, and 'Tik tok' is staying put at 38.

There are 2 re-entries this week; Cheryl Cole's 'Fight for this love' as mentioned above, and Sidney Samson and Wizard Sleeve's 'Riverside' at 39; the track peaked at number 2 in January and is back after only a 1 week chart absence, clocking up a 10th week inside the top 40.

Leaving the chart this week are Mary J Blige's 'I am', down 19 at 59, Glee Cast's 'Defying gravity', down 21 at 60, Marina and the diamond's 'Hollywood', down 13 at 48, Steve Aoki's 'I'm in the house', down 12 at 41 and Lemar's 'The way love goes', down 9 at 42.

Bubbling under with top 40 potential are David Guetta's 'Memories', up 8 at 44, Robbie Williams' 'Morning sun', up 15 at 45, and Florence and the machine's 'Dog days are over', up 9 at 47 (likely to re-enter).

Now that the Official UK Charts company and the BBC are finally giving their blessing for us to see the mid-week chart figures, it's interesting to note how the positions changed during the latter end of the week, the most notable climbs and falls were Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' at number 1 having been at 2 in the midweeks, McLean's 'My name' being a non-mover at 10 in the midweeks but now down to 13, Young Money's 'Bedrock' climbing 6 places after only climbing 1 in the midweeks and Lemar's 'The way love goes' being out of the chart having been at 36 in the midweeks. All the new arrivals entered higher than they were at the midweeks, Inna's 'Hot' by 4 places, Skepta's 'Bad boy' by 8 places and Glee Cast's 'True colors' which didn't feature in the midweek chart at all.

This weeks new physical releases are:

Arctic Monkeys – My Propeller
Audio Bullys – Only Man
Boy George – Amazing Grace
Florence & The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
Young Money – Bedrock (Currently no12)
