There's no change at the top, but there's no lack of chart action elsewhere. For the 2nd consecutive week the collaboration of artists singing to help Haiti are number 1 with 'Everybody hurts'.
The Brit awards have made an impact on this weeks countdown, most noticeably the number 2 record, the weeks highest new entry, 'You got the dirtee love', a collaboration of Florence and the machine's 'You got the love' and Dizzee Rascal's 'Dirtee money' which they performed at the brits. The song was available only on itunes and has not been studio recorded; all the downloads are live recordings of the brits performance. Interestingly this mash up has immediately charted far higher than both of the original songs; Florence and the machine's 'You got the love' peaked at number 5 at the beginning of the year and Dizzee Rascal's 'Dirtee cash' peaked at 10 last October. 'You got the dirtee love' has immediately become the biggest hit to date for Florence and the machine, beating the chart peaks of all 3 of her top 40 hits and it's the 4th biggest hit of Dizzee's career, the biggest being his 3 number 1 hits of 2008/9. The brits exposure has not only catapulted Florence and the machine to number 2, but has also caused the original 'You got the love' to jump back up 17 places to become this weeks number 12, now on its 17th charting week.
After a fortnight at number 3, Timbaland and Katy Perry's 'If we ever meet again' appears to have peaked; the track has dipped a place to this weeks number 4, now on its 4th charting week. Katy does however still have 2 hits consecutively inside the top 10, the other being 'Starstrukk' at number 10 on its 10th charting week.
Also moving down for the first time is Alicia Keys' 'Empire state of mind part 2'; the track has fallen a place to number 5 on its 7th charting week. 'Empire state of mind' however has climbed back up, more on that later....
Moving up the top 10 this week is Rihanna's 'Rude boy'; on only its 4th charting week, it's up 4 places to a new peak of number 6.
This weeks 2nd highest new entry marks the return of British R'n'B and soul singer, Lemar. His new track 'The way love goes' has landed at number 8 and is immediately his biggest hit since 'It's not that easy' peaked at 7 in September 2006. 'The way love goes' is Lemar's 11th top 40 hit, his biggest being 'Dance with you' which reached number 2 in august of 2003.
Just outside the top 10 is Jedward's 'Under pressure', which plummeted 10 places from 2 to 12 last week; there's a little consolation for the boys this week as the song has crept back up 1 place to number 11.
Lady Gaga's brit awards exposure has also affected her chart status'. Her former 2 time number 1 hit 'Bad romance' has jumped 5 places back up to number 15 on its 17th charting week; her latest hit 'Telephone' has also moved up 5 places at number 34, although the track appears to still be in the shadow of 'Bad romance', now in its 4th (non-consecutive) week in the top 40 and still yet to climb higher than number 34. Gaga performed at the brits and won best international breakthrough artist, best international female and best international album.
Also performing at the brits was Jay Z who won best international male; as a result his duet with Alicia Keys, ' Empire state of mind' has jumped back in to the top 20, up 9 at 16. The track has now been inside the top 40 for 23 weeks and during that time it has left and returned to the top 20 4 times. Jay Z's other recent hit 'Young forever' is also still in the chart at 24.
After some very slow climbing of 1 place a week for the past 3 weeks, this week 'Do you remember', the collaboration of Jay Sean, Sean Paul and Lil John has finally dropped this week, down 4 at number 17 having reached its number 13 peak last week; the song has now spent 5 weeks inside the top 40.
Chery Cole was another performer at the brits benefiting from further chart success; 'Parachute', which was a new entry last week has jumped 7 places up to a new peak of number 19, now her 4th top 20 hit outside of Girls Aloud. Also, her solo chart topper 'Fight for this love' has re-entered the chart at 36, clocking up a 16th non-consecutive week inside the top 40.
Young money and Lloyd's 'Bedrock' has clawed 1 place further up the chart again; this week at a new peak of number 27 on its 4th charting week.
Right next door is a new entry, a 5th top 40 hit by UK indie band The Courteeners. 'You overdid it doll' has landed at 28 and it's their first hit since 'That kiss' charted at number 35 in October 2008. Their biggest hit to date is 'Not 19 forever' which funnily enough peaked at 19 in April of 2008; they also reached the top 20 with 'What took you so long' 3 months earlier.
After a 13 place jump up the chart last week, it seems Calvin Harris' 'You used to hold me' may have peaked; it's down 5 at 32 this week, looking set to be the smallest of his 7 hits to reach the top 40, beating only his 2007 release 'Merrymaking at my place' which narrowly missed out on the the top 40.
There are 2 more new arrivals at the bottom end of the chart; at 35 is US R'n'B star Chris Brown's 11th UK top 40 hit entitled 'Crawl' and at 40 is Leona Lewis' 8th top 40 hit, 'I got you'. Leona has of course had 3 UK chart toppers and Chris' biggest hit is his number 2 hit 'Run it' in 2006.
Also worthy of a mention this week is the chart u-turn of Black Eyed Peas former 2 time chart topper 'I gotta feeling'; it's back up 2 places at number 33 on its 34th charting week. What is interesting is that it is now higher than their most recent number 1 hit 'Meet me halfway' which currently resides at 37. There are in fact several artists with long term hits now above their most recent ones including Ke$ha whose former top 5 hit 'Tik tok' is currently number 29 on its 16th charting week is 1 place higher than her 3 week long hit 'Blah blah blah' at 30, Lady Gaga's 17 week long chart topper 'Bad romance' is at 15 - 19 places higher than her newest hit 'Telephone' at 34, Jay Z's 'Empire state of mind' is at 16 on its 23rd charting week - 8 places higher than his 12 week long top 10 hit 'Young forever' and Glee Cast's number 2 hit 'Don't stop believing' is at 7 on its 6th charting week - higher than Halo/Walking on sunshine at 9 and It's my life/Confessions part 2 at 20, both on their 2nd charting weeks.
Leaving the chart this week are Alicia Keys' former top 10 hit 'Doesn't mean anything', down 5 at 41, Plan B's former top 10 hit 'Stay too long', down 13 at 45, Rihanna's number 2 hit 'Russian Roulette', down 9 at 46, Timbaland's former top 10 hit 'Morning after dark', down 8 at 48, DJ Zinc & Ms Dynamite's 'Wile out', down 13 at 51, and Glee Cast's 'Somebody to love', down 23 at 56.
Potential future top 40 hits bubbling under include Pixie Lott's 'Gravity' at 43, Florence and the machine's 'Dog days are over' (likely to re-enter) at 44, Taylor Swift's 'Today was a fairytale' at 57 and Mika's 'Blame it on the girls' at 72.
