Nobody will be surprised to learn that the Helping Haiti charity collaboration of 'Everybody hurts' has entered the chart at number 1. The song, which was originally a number 7 hit for REM in 1993, features the vocals of Leona Lewis, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole, Mika, Michael Buble, Joe McElderry, Miley Cyrus, James Blunt, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jon Bon Jovi, James Morrison, Susan Boyle, Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams.
So after 3 weeks at the top, Owl City's 'Fireflies' has dipped a place to number 2 but spending a 5th week in the top 2 is still quite an achievement.
After a huge climb last week, this week Timbaland and Katy Perry's 'If we ever meet again' is a non-mover, holding on at number 3 on its 3rd charting week.
Alicia Keys' 'Emnpire state of mind part 2' has crawled up 1 more place to another new peak of number 4 and still has 3 records consecutively inside the top 40.
It seems however that the cast of E4's Glee have stolen Alicia's thunder this week as they can boast 4 hits inside this weeks top 40. At number 5 is 'Don't stop believing' which has now been inside the top 5 for 5 weeks and has been as high as number 2. At number 9 is a new arrival from Glee, a cover of Beyonce's 'Halo' which peaked at 4 last March combined with 'Walking on sunshine', a top 10 hit for Katrina and the waves in 1985. Although there are 2 songs mixed together, the track is surprisingly short being just 2 minutes and 5 seconds long. The 3rd highest new entry is also courtesy of Glee, a combination of Bon Jovi's 2000 number 3 hit 'It's my life' and Ushers 2004 number 5 hit 'Confessions part 2'; this track is even shorter at just 1 minute and 51 seconds in length. The other Glee Cast track is a cover of Queen's 1976 number 2 hit 'Somebody to love' which currently resides at number 33.
2 records that moved down the chart last week are on their way back up; at 6 3oh!3 and Katy Perry's 'Starstrukk' is back up a place, now on its 9th week inside the top 10. Although Katy Perry's new song isn't suffering, it could be that 3oh!3 fans aren't quite ready to move on to their newest hit, as 'Blah blah blah' has dipped 4 places to number 15 on only its 2nd charting week.
Also moving back up are JLS; 'One shot' moved down for the first time last week after 3 weeks of consistent climbing. This week the track is back up at number 7, just 1 place below its peak, suggesting their is potential for this to be a top 5 hit yet.
Rihanna's 'Rude boy' has shot up the chart again this week; up 10 places at number 10 on its 3rd charting week. It's now her 12th UK top 10 hit. Her last success 'Russian Roulette' is also still inside the top 40, this week at 37.
Plummeting down the chart this week are Jedward; after a number 2 chart debut last week, this week 'Under pressure' has fallen 10 places to number 12; is the track losing popularity already?
Just below at 13 is the collaboration of Jay Sean, Sean Paul and Lil' John; 'Do you remember' crept up 1 place to 14 last week and this week has climbed just 1 place again. It's initial fast climbing led us to believe it had top 10 potential, but now we're wondering! The track is now in its 4th charting week.
The news is not good for Marina and the diamonds as after a UK chart debut at 12 last week, this week 'Hollywood' has fallen 6 places to number 18.
There's a new entry at 26 this week, a 4th success (externally from Girls Aloud) for Cheryl Cole; the track entitled 'Parachutes' follows up 'Heartbreaker', 'Fight for this love', and '3 words', all of which reached the top 5.
Just below are a clutch of chart climbers; at 27 is an 11 place climb for Calvin Harris' 'You used to hold me' which arrived at 38 last week, next door is a 6 place climb for Young Money and Lloyd's 'Bedrock', now up to a new peak of 28 on its 3rd charting week and at 30 is Pixie Lott's 'Cry me out' which has climbed back up 2 places, now on its 15th charting week.
This weeks final new entry is a collaboration of 2 British artists, DJ Zinc and Ms Dynamite. Zinc has only ever had top 40 success with '138 Trek' which peaked at 27 in 2000, although he has had 7 top 75 hits; Ms Dynamite has previously had 5 top 40 hits, the biggest being 'Dy-na-mi-tee' which peaked at 5 in 2002 and her most recent being 'Judgement day' which reached number 25 in 2005. Their new collaboration is entitled 'Wile out'; new at number 38 this week.
Leaving the top 40 this week are Chipmunk's 'Look for me', down 6 at 41, Justin Bieber's 'One time', down 15 at 44, Pitbull's 'Shut it down', down 9 at 45, Cheryl Cole's '3 words', down 12 at 52 and OneRepublic's 'All the right moves', down 21 at 57.
Potential future hits bubbling under include, Chris Brown's 'Crawl' at 42, Gucci & Usher's 'Spotlight' at 46, Leona Lewis' 'I got you' at 62 and Pixie Lott's 'Gravity' at 73.
