I love musicals (note. I'm talking film musicals, and not stage musicals! :P). I think they're fun, I think they're lighthearted and I think they're genuine. They also make me smile loads. They probably won't have the best plot in the world, or the most disciplined acting, but you're guaranteed a good laugh and sing-a-long if its made well! ;)

Here is a list of just a few:

Singin' In The Rain
Sound Of Music
Wizard Of Oz
West Side Story
My Fair Lady
Cabaret
Meet Me In St. Louis
The King And I
Yankee Doodle Dandy
A Star Is Born
Oklahoma
South Pacific
Funny Girl
Mary Poppins
Grease
Gigi
Guys And Dolls
All That Jazz
Hello, Dolly!
Chicago
Oliver
Gypsy
Wille Wonka And The Chocolate Factory
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Gay Divorcee
Moulin Rouge
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Phantom Of The Opera
New York, New York!
A Hard Day's Night
Calamity Jane
Dreamgirls
Rent
Purple Rain
Viva Las Vegas

I'm sure most people have seen the likes of Mary Poppins, Grease, Wizard Of Oz. A lot of people will also have seen Dreamgirls, since that was only 3 years ago!

What are your favourite musicals? Songs from musicals? OST's?

Wizard of Oz is my all time favoirite, but Grease is right up there...my fav part of the show is in the beginning when they're singing "summer nights" and they sing "tell me more tell me more" and Marty says "like does he have a car?" I don't know why but the face she makes cracks me up every time

I was shocked. A few years ago, a list of the 100 greatest musicals was devised - Grease was number 20!!! It should've been top 10 at least! Its just so iconic. That was one list anyways, and I now can't find the link! :(

But this list puts Grease at number one: :D

http://admin.channel4.com/film/newsfeat ... _5to1.html (http://admin.channel4.com/film/newsfeatures/microsites/M/musicals/results_5to1.html)

10. Moulin Rouge (2001)
9. Oliver! (1968)
8. Chicago (2002)
7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
6. Singin' In The Rain (1952)
5. Mary Poppins (1964)
4. West Side Story (1961)
3. The Wizard Of Oz (1939)
2. The Sound Of Music (1965)
1. Grease (1978)

I think that's a wicked top 10!

My absolute favourite stage musicals would have to be 'Cats' and 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'. I remember seeing them live when I was a kid and they were fantastic. :D

My favourite film musicals would be 'Moulin Rouge!' (also in my Top 5 all-time favourite films) and 'Oliver!'. :D

I haven't seen that many.I've been meaning to see dream Girls and those High School Musicals ....but I haven't managed it yet.

My fav is probably Grease (Hopelessy Devoted to You),followed by Little Shop of Horrors (Somewhere That's Green).

I own Rent on DVD. Oh and Hairspray & Dreamgirls on Blu-Ray.
I haven't actually watched any of them yet, haha.

I would love to see Avenue Q in theatres though, I've seen clips of it on YouTube and it looks hilarious

EDIT: I of course have Grease on DVD. One of my fave films of all time :grinlove:
Sequel was shite though.

Yeah I also own Hairspray and Dreamgirls.. but even better is Moulin Rouge.. I was depressed like 1 week after the end of the movie.. so sad.. the music is so amazing..

I don't like Chicago so much.. i don't like the music...

the best on stage musical is the Lion King.. Elton John did magic with it.

"Mamma Mia" is probably my fav, although I haven't seen the movie yet. The "Sweeny Todd" musical is quite good, although didn't enjoy the film that much. I used to like "Singin' in the Rain" but haven't seen it in years. Oh and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" musical episode was pure genius.
