Things are not looking good for Christina Aguilera…at all. The 29 year old’s latest LP ‘Bionic’ is on course to limp into the charts with dismal sales. More below…

According to Billboard (http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/charts/chart_alert/e3i81776746af856353f079cefd3d1ff682), the album is forecast to sell in the region of 100,000-120,000 copies first week.

Not only are such numbers appalling for Aguilera given her label’s huge promotional campaign and the massive sums of money invested into the recording of the record, its set to be the lowest ever first week tally of Aguilera’s career.

Granted there is still a few more major promo stops for Xtina before the week is out, unless she’s able to pull some kind of ‘water-into-wine’-esque miracle, this is looking to be one hell of an embarrassing situation for the ‘Dirty’ singer.

It’s all rather unfortunate, as ‘Bionic’ is indeed a solid LP, and is infinitely better than her last offering ‘Back to Basics’. However, it’s clear to see that the lethal combo of the Lady GaGa comparisons and Christina’s own ‘attitude’ rendered this LP dead on arrival.

Oh well, every artist has a flop at some point.

Thanks to thegrapejuice for their take. I've copied and pasted it because its the one I agree with most, particularly their last point, that every artist has a flop at some point!

^ She should be selling that much in the US alone, but oh well. At least she passed the 100k mark....

Wayne

Apparently, she's slipped to the top 15 in the mids, and I've read that she's just hanging on, which means she'll be #14 or #15!

So at the moment, my predicted chart run of 1-11 looks to be too generous lol

According to Ash, the biggest drops from #1 in the UK albums chart are:

So George Harrison 1-18 (after 8 weeks at #1)
Ellie Goulding 1-16

She could make chart history! Not in the way she'd want to but hey LOL

Harrisons's is generally regarded as a fluke; back in 1971, chart reporting was in its infancy, so to speak. And due to a postal strike, the chart that one week when Harrison fell, was a massive mix up

Well then, all she has to do is fall 2 more places from her current midweek position and she'll take the throne!

Johnson's 'Sea' sails to No. 1
http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/J/Johnson_Jack/2010/06/16/14413796.html

Hawaiian surfer-turned-singer Jack Johnson continued to make waves on the Canadian album charts this week.

His latest disc, "To the Sea," buoyed by the first single "You and Your Heart," remained at No. 1 on sales of 15,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers.

His latest effort has now racked up over 45,000 copies since its release last week.

Just behind Johnson was "Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals," which came in at No. 2 with 14,000 in sales, Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" (9,000) at No. 3

So a 3-8 drop...about as bad as I anticipated. The promo seems to have done absolutely nothing for her, even on a show like American Idol where million of people saw her give an amazing performance.

Yay for Justin Bieber's consistency! #3 non-new album!

Interesting that B2B is her biggest seller there.

How much did Bionic do in the US? 250K?

Wayne
01-07-2011, 01:38 PM
The last total I saw for it was 237k, a couple of weeks back. So 250k is a good estimate. In the UK, its sold 65k to date

HeatSeeker
01-07-2011, 03:15 PM
Pretty astounding that it didn't even end up being among the top 100 sellers in the US for the year, for someone of her status and talent. My mom couldn't believe it when I told her lol

Wayne
01-10-2011, 06:54 PM
Yeah its absolutely disgraceful if I'm being honest. In the UK, the result is even worse! She hasn't sold enough to be included in the top 200 albums of 2010!

^ Holy crap, and it was #1 there. Just shows how poorly she sold in the subsequent weeks

While Take That provided the year’s zenith, Christina Aguilera furnished its nadir, with her Bionic album topping the list in June on sales of just 24,301 copies. Finishing in 223rd position for the year with sales of 63,980 copies, it helped to keep the average sales of a number one album down to 87,528 for the year as a whole. That is below the 2000-2010 average of 101,780 and the lowest figure for any year in the 21st Century, replacing 2003, when the average was 88,413.

223rd best-seller of the year, after having the lowest first week sales in 8 years, and one of the lowest one week sales in UK chart history (remember it fell from #1 to #29 in its second week, the largest drop ever). Really shit era for Christina! lol

Wayne

Yep, ended the year at #56, with sales of 352,000!
