She is (was?) the Queen of the USA when it came to music - she's the most successful American act of the last two decades and one of the most successful solo artists of all-time, bar NONE. At one point in her career, she was topping EVERY major album chart around the world and was selling albums by the millions. She experienced a commercial decline in 1999, beginning with Rainbow, and lasting until 2005, when The Emancipation Of Mimi was released. The album brought Carey back to the forefront of popular culture, amassing totally worldwide shipments of over 9m copies - once again, Carey was one of the biggest stars in the world. Then came E=MC2; beginning with record opening week sales of 463,000 copies, the album marked a watershed in Carey's career - many fans predicted big things for her. On top of the number one selling album, she'd register her 18th number one single with Touch My Body....what could possibly go wrong? Well everything, it seems! Her follow up singles performed terribly and the album itself, whilst selling quite well, was still a massive under-performance and not what people predicted. The era was cast aside, and a new album was in the works - some predicted that it was too early for Carey to release. Memoirs saw its release 4 weeks ago, and to call it a flop would be an understatement - its perhaps the most catastrophic album showing of not only her career, but of this decade by a major recording artist, with less than 500,000 copies sold worldwide in a month.
What should Mariah Carey do next?[/center:ekqgbqae]
